Why do psychologists reject science?

The rationale that many people give when arguing against Begley's premise is truly bizarre. Since the article came out, I have had some arguments/discussions with people on a number of forums that left my mystified on:

(a) how people can so fundamentally misunderstand the data on empirically supported treatments
(b) how we can shift the paradigm and educate a broader audience on these points.
