We have heard from many of you that Verizon has cancelled some of the HMOs for 2010 and others have only one or two options available. Verizon has consolidated some plans for 2010. Verizon sent a letter in September to retirees who were covered under Aetna informing them of the move to Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. To find out if your ... Read Moredoctors are participating in this plan, you can go to www.anthem.com/verizon.
Starting Monday, November 2nd, your personal options for 2010 should be available with Verizon benefits. We urge you to call Verizon benefits at 1-877-489-2367. You will need the retiree’s Social Security Number, date of birth and a PIN to access a representative. If you do not have a PIN, say the word "representative" and you will be transferred to someone who can assist you. You can also access your benefit information and beneficiary information by visiting http://www.verizon.com/benefits.

union pre medicare retirees still have the hmo option available for 2010, why not management? sounds like a double standard and discrimination. All my available plans have no stop loss annual maximum. This means if you really get sick, its bankrupt city. Is there time for you to intervene?

Marianne Keaney Stevens

Marianne Keaney Stevens Anyone else unhappy that Anthem is going to be the exclusive provider for (pre-medicare) retiree health care? I tried to get info on options and, after waiting a long time on the phone, was told nothing will be available online until after 10/28.

Susan The Strowger Exhibit will have its unveiling this weekend at Safety Harbor Spa. If you can attend or want to attend, please call or email Emmett Clary at 813-287-1103 or calvo49@aol.com. He is a retiree from GTE. But he worked for years to obtain a grant for this exhibit. Stowger is buried in St. Pete and gave so much to the telephone industry.

Retired June 1995 with six and six. Had 28 yrs 2 mos service. Never looked back. Work part time at Lowe's in Brockton MA. I just wrote the Association a letter regarding the presciption drug plan. Chronic medicine cost $10 through the plan that Verizon gives us, the insurance pays $8+ on one of mine, and Verizon pays f...or the insurance. Seems to be a lot of waste in the system and no value added for retirees who can get the same medicine for the same cost at a Wal-Mart pharmacy. If you want to discuss of recieve a copy of my letter, contact me.

Wal-Mart Plan .. I have no idea what Verizon pays for each person... Read More’s prescription plan. For giggles let’s say it’s the same as a Medicare recipient pays. A search of the Medicare web site for my area returned numerous plans ranging in cost from $19.50 to $111.30 per month.

Let’s guess that Verizon pays $25 per month or $300 annually. My family uses four drugs on a daily basis every day. Using my numbers, Verizon pays $300 a year for the insurance, we pay $160 in co-payments, and Medco pays (guessing) $128. Without a plan we would pay the same $160 at Wal-Mart, Verizon would save $300, and Medco would lose some business. In this example there seems to be a waste of $428. Now you do the math, i.e. multiply by the number of Association members or the number of retirees, etc.

In conclusion, when it comes to chronic generic drugs, our prescription plan seems to be a non-benefit. If we use Wal-Mart it would reduce claims for Verizon and shouldn’t that allow lower premiums?
