Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System The Best Of... lists have already begun. GQ magazine published it's selection for the best books of 2009. The list includes fiction, biographies, and even an unfinished work by Nabokov. AFPLS owns the majority of the titles. You can click on the link below for the full list-it's great for finding a good book to rea...d on a less-then-lovely winter day or as a starting place for Christmas presents. Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System If you, or your kids, are a fan of Percy Jackson, then I know you are counting down until the first movie based on Rick Riordan's series, "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief," comes out in February. The movie stars Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson and Logan Lerman as Percy. To keep you busy ...until the film comes out, AFPLS has all the titles in the series if you want to renew your love for all things Olympian: The Lighting Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian. Check your local branch or the online catalog to find a copy of one of Riordan's books and catch the movie trailer below!

Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System With Sarah Palin's new book coming out this month, political memoirs are a hot topic. Time magazine has a list of the Top 10 Political Memoirs. AFPLS has nine of the ten titles, including works by five presidents (Grant, Obama, Buchanan, Eisenhower, & H.W. Bush) and writers on all sides of the politcal spectrum. Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System The Milner Award is given by AFPLS and is chosen by Fulton County and City fo Atlanta school children to eb given to their favorite living author. This year marks the 26th anniversary adn the winner is author Margie Palatini whose works include "Gone with the Wand" and "Lousy Rotten Stinkin' Grapes." Ms. Palatini wil...l be athe Ocee Library in Johns Creek on Saturday, November 14 at 11 am. She will also do two programs at the Central Library on Friday, November 13. These are great opportunities for your children to meet one of their favorite authors in person! CHeck the link below for more information on these events and the Milner Award.

If you walk into your local branch this week, you'll notice signage about not returning items to the shelves and you may be asked to complete a user survey. Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System November is National Novel Writing Month-you get 30 days (ok, 28 now!) to write the novel you've always wanted to write. Also called NaNo, this great event has tons of online freebies, like space to upload your work, discussion boards for hints and help with background research. AFPLS carries the offical book, "No Pl...ot, No Problem," so hurry up and finish-maybe one day your novel will be in the library!
