The Auburn Avenue Research Library, in collaboration with the Central Library of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, presents GIWAYEN MATA, a dynamic, all women, percussion, dance, and vocal ensemble. GIWAYEN MATA celebrates the fifth principle of Kwanzaa, NIA (Purpose) with a soul-stirring performance of West African influence.

Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History Dr. LeeAnn Lands, Associate Professor of History and American Studies at Kennesaw State University, will discuss her book, The Culture of Property: Race, Class, and Housing Landscapes in Atlanta, 1880–1950. This history of the idea of “neighborhood” in a major American city, examines the transition of Atlanta, Georgia,... from a place of little concern with residential segregation, tasteful surroundings, and property control, to one marked by extreme concentrations of poverty and racial and class exclusion.
