Gerontology Institute at Georgia State University enjoyed a beautiful evening at the Parc at Buckhead with the Gerontology Alumni association who celebrated the career of Mary MacKinnon, who will be retiring November 30. Many thanks to everyone who organized the event especially Laura Hamling and Lizabeth Andrews.

Video Poem: “Pieces of Our Minds” (Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, Hospice, Nursing Homes)
As a Detroit, MI hospice volunteer, I interacted often with nursing home patients who had dementia, usually Alzheimer's disease. Dementia is like a fluttering bee. I never knew when it would make honey or sting. An important lesso...n I learned is that I don’t know the extent of anyone’s mental boundaries. One thing I know for sure is that I visited their Oz weekly and became a better person.
