Q.1 How different is electronic music from the pop?

This depends completely on the ears of the listener and how they define music themselves. For example, I consider the music made by producers such as David Guetta or Bob Sinclair to be pop music. Whereas other people may see their music as electronic. By its definition ‘pop music’ means ‘popular music’. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that because something is popular its pop music. Daft Punk or the Chemical Brothers are, in my eyes, electronic music producers however they are both extremely popular.

We don’t, we like to leave that up to the listener. We’ve always aimed to produce music to make people dance. That’s our ethos. But if you’re looking for somewhere to place us musically then we would fit somewhere in the realms of electronic / house / techno music.

Q.3 What do you make of the electronica scene in Mumbai?

This is my first trip to Mumbai so I’ll have to answer that question next week! I can say though that I’m very excited about performing in and visiting Mumbai!

Q.4 What kind of venues do you like to perform in?

I like variety… of course it’s great to play at the massive festivals to huge crowds but it’s equally pleasurable playing in a small club to 300 or 400 people. You get a whole different vibe when it’s a smaller venue, you can really feel how the crowd are reacting and where they want to go next. It’s difficult to choose a favourite, I think I like the variety more than choosing one specific type of venue or event…

Q.5 How important it is for you to have your own label?

In today’s underground electronic music scene a record label helps define you musically as an artist and is another portal of opportunity for taking your sound to new ears. It gives you the freedom to release your own music and allows you to hand pick tracks by other artists that fit into your labels sound. It’s not essential in terms of success but it does help increase your worth as an all round contributor to the music scene and I think that can only be a good thing.
