Audubon North Carolina Holly Shelter Game Land in Pender County is an expansive wildland with vast longleaf pine savannahs, pocosin, and really intriguing seasonal ponds. An Audubon Important Bird Area and site on the NC Birding Trail, the game land is home to some sought-after species like Red-cockaded Woodpecker and Bachman's Sparrow. A ...recent tromp through the game lands with Audubon staff turned up some nice looks at Brown-headed Nuthatches and lovely afternoon light shining on the pocket ponds.
