Background: Southeast Wisconsin formed a workforce and management organization called the Construction Labor Management Council (CLMC). The council's mission was to foster excellence in construction and promote qual...ity building. Shortly after forming, the CLMC developed a campaign to market quality, union construction. This campaign became Building Advantage.Today, Building Advantage represents more than 600 union contractors and 22,000 trades people in Southeast Wisconsin. In both of our new medical center construction sites (Summit and Grafton), Aurora is doing a lot in the way of being good stewards of the environment. I recently found some interesting facts regarding our efforts in that area, specifically at the Summit site:
* 151 tons of cardboard and office paper was recycled from th...e project which saved 2,567 trees from being cut.
* 690 tons of wood was recycled – enough to frame about 60 average homes.
* 8,857 tons of various construction materials was recycled, which, if placed in 30-yard dumpsters and placed end to end, would stretch more than 7 miles.
* The overall recycling program reduced the project’s greenhouse gas emissions by 3,885 metric tons (as calculated by W.A.R.M. - the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Waste Reduction Model).Read More
