Hill Country Outdoors
This was scheduled for Oct 11th, but rained out on that day. Hopefully, this date will work for us!
Let's go four-wheeling! We'll spend a couple of hours tearing up the miles of trails and obstacle at Austin Del Valle's Motocross park on top-of-the-line ATVs.
As HCO members, we're getting about 20% off the normal price.... There's a $10 entry into the park and we'll pay only $62 for two hours of riding (that's a huge discount to previous events!).
Bring water and a snack w/ you. Wear long pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and closed-toed shoes.
Let's meet at Maria's Taco Express (map). We'll be riding from 10 to noon. Plan on going out to lunch aferwards.
Giddy up!!
Disclaimer: These are big, powerful machines, so there is a risk of danger in operating them. You don't have to have prior experience to go, as they will give us a short tutorial and safety lesson before we start. You will have to sign ATV Adventure Rental's waiver on-site in order to participate.
In case of bad weather, we'll reschedule so check the HCO website and your email before the event for updates.
Time:9:30AM Sunday, November 22nd

The Southern Animal Rescue Association (SARA) maintains a shelter near Seguin. It’s a wonderful place where hundreds of unwanted dogs dozens of cats, pigs, chickens, and even some Longhorns, mules, and goats get to live out there natural lives with as much freedom and care as possible.
As you can imagine they are in a n...ear constant state of being overwhelmed and can use all the help they can get, both time and money. What can you do as a volunteer?, well Xmas day when I was up there, I fed chickens, herded baby piglets, cleaned poop from the kennels, distributed treats and toys to the dogs, groomed and brushed, and played with the puppies to help keep them socialized. On other days they may need help installing pens, transporting animals for adoption days, administering meds it goes on and on.
It’s a full day affair since its about 1.5 hour drive from Austin, but it’s a fun and rewarding day. Plan to leave Austin around 8:30 AM to get to the sanctuary by 10 PM, we will work until about 2:30 before heading back to Austin, expecting to be back around 4:00 PM.
If you would like more information on SARA or how to help you can contact me directly or visit their website at http://www.sarasanctuary.org. They are a 501 (c)(3)charity so contributions are tax deductible.
Please bring plenty of water, a light lunch ( we will take a break around noon), and wear clothes suitable for working on a farm. That means boots that are easy to clean the bottems of :-), jeans, sweatshirt, etc, that you wear for yard work. Work gloves are a good idea if you have them. I'll try to bring a few extra pairs.
Children 7 and older are welcome as long as they have a responsible parent who is a club member with them. It be a great adventure for them.

We'll have four days & nights in Big Bend National Park to explore some of the most scenic country in Texas, heck, the wordl! We'll be camping in the group campground in the Chisos Basin. There's an embarassment of natural riches to explore inside the park and activities include hiking, canoeing/kayaking, rafting, roc...k climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, etc. Organized activities will get posted to the HCO calendar as we get closer to the trip date and we'll also have signup sheets available for each day's activities, the night before.
We'll also have a pre-trip planning meeting in the middle of October to discuss what to bring, what to expect, etc. This will be posted to the HCO calendar shortly.
Big Bend National Park encompasses more than 800,000 acres in southwest Texas. For more than 1,000 miles, the Rio Grande forms the international boundary between Mexico and the United States; Big Bend National Park administers approximately one-quarter of that boundary. Within the 118 twisting miles that also define the park’s southern boundary, the river’s southeasterly flow changes abruptly to the northeast and forms the “big bend” of the Rio Grande.
Transportation
Transportation will be by carpool. A pre-trip meeting will be posted a few weeks before the trip to allow people to arrange carpooling. There will also be a forum in the message board setup for the trip.
Thursday and Monday will be driving days, leaving us Thursday late afternoon - Monday morning to enjoy the park. Most folks leave early Thursday morning to drive out there but feel free to leave Wednesday night if you want to get a jump start.
Meals
The trip cost includes 11 meals (Thursday dinner; Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Friday-Sunday; and a Monday morning send-off breakfast). Meals will be prepared in a community kitchen. Everyone will be asked to pitch in with meal preparation, cleaning and camp duties. We will have a sign-up sheet at the pre-trip meeting for this purpose.
Please email me (btalbot@hillcountryoutdoors.com) if you have any dietary restrictions that we need to accomodate.
Dining and cooking gear (Pots, etc) will be provided. It's BYOB for adult beverages. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.
What to Bring
You will need to bring your own personal camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, flashlight, hiking boots, etc). Pack and dress in layers - it can get really cold at night and hot as blazes during the day so pack accordingly. An air mattress or sleeping pad is highly recommended - the ground is hard out there, and ear plugs too - those bears snore pretty loud in West Texas!
No refunds if you cancel after October 15th - find someone else to take your spot and collect $ from him/her.
Sign up now... November 4th iis the last day to reserve your spot!!
Time:8:00AM Thursday, November 5th
Location:Big Bend National Park
