Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children HUMOR! How has a sense of humor helped you in your family walk with autism?

Nancy Spalthoff My first time trick or treating with my son Billy went great! He knocked on the door.....He said Trick or Treat with some help........He accepted his candy......and then, he walked into the house. Since when do you knock on a door, have it opened and not go in?? The looks on people's faces were hysterical :)

Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children Do you have a picture like this? The first time Alec put on a custume, he screamed & tugged at it, melting down in a fit of sensory overload. Needless to say, he didn't go trick-or-treating that night! But a few years later he was happy to don a costume & participate. At one time, I posted Alec's crying photo on my bl...og & received many other comments from ASD parents with similar stories & photos. So... do you have a Trick-or-treat story to share?

Parents are reporting their children have autism at double the rate of earlier reports -- that 1 in 91 children are affected. But whether a change in diagnosis criteria or some factor in the environment remains unclear.

Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children Caring for an autistic child is expensive with so many out-of-pocket medical costs, therapies, & tutoring. Add to that the pressure of being there to personally assist with school, social activities & growing up. How do parents best balance the need to work more hours to pay for autism-related expenses with the demand ...of personal time required of an ASD parent? What are your suggestions & stories?
