Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children
Hello, everyone! In my book, I wrote that "If all we have to give our son is love, then God will see to it that love is enough." Well, I had no idea that God would put those words to the test in 2009...

Kelly - this is AMAZING!! You are such an inspiration. The economy has hit our house hard as well. I am trying to balance all the needs of our two children, both on the spectrum with differing needs, with the necessities of life and living WITHOUT a job outside the home. God knew that my children needed me, and has shown us that HE will provide... See More, although it has been very hard. It is nice to know, though, that in our difficulties that we are not alone - GOD is with us and so are other people struggling with the same things. You have just made my day! God bless! :-)

That is such an awesome testimony, Kelly. Gods love does see us through always & makes a way for us when it doesnt appear to be one in sight. One thing that I can count on, is his love and faithfulness has pulled us through a thousand times over! :)

Two factors that most correlated to the presence of the clusters were parents with above average levels of education and living near large autism treatment facilities.

I think when parents are educated they are more likely to notice something abnormal with their child's development, they have more resources to pursue help, therapy, and diagnoses for their child/children.

Joseph Trance Happy New Year to all. I was surfing the net and saw this site. I'm very interested in anything that connects Christianity with autism. This book sounds interesting. If there are any more books like this I'd like to know.

I've been working with students with autism for a while and occassionally write Christian p...oems. "God's Autism Classroom," can be seen at Cross Way Publications.org.

Hi, Joseph. Facing Autism (by Lynn Hamilton) is the book that I read when Alec was first diagnosed. It covers treatment, but also has a Christian context.

Saybra:

Hello! I've been in tears on many days, too, but just keep on walking, hoping, breathing and trusting God to be there for you and Chance.

Potty training IS hard. I had given up, but then a teacher helped me get Alec trained. See, I shouldn't have given up! ... See More

I can tell you love your son, so know this: God will give you every thing you need so that you will NOT fail him. God gave you chance because He believes in YOU. You can do this. It just takes time. But there are blessings along the way!

Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children Hello everyone! Alec has fallen off of the wagon diet-wise after family trips for Thanksgiving. Sometimes this journey is a "three steps forward, one step back" one. That one step back is mighty hard to take!

Kelly: I can so relate! Is Alec still on a gluten/casein free diet?
Noah's been gluten/casein free since September with huge success! Its hard for him and had a little gluten over Thanksgiving as well and I could tell the difference in his behavior. Its so hard,I made him some gluten free rolls, but he refused them cause he LOVES the traditional crescent rolls that I make and I wish I knew a way to make them gluten free.

I am so curious about this diet. So...what did it do to Alec when he "fell of the wagon"? What does the diet do for him?

Brady says he has ass burgers (Aspergers). It cracks him up. Me...not so much esp. when he told the psychologist. But, it does lighten the load sometimes to bring laughter to it.

Nancy Spalthoff My first time trick or treating with my son Billy went great! He knocked on the door.....He said Trick or Treat with some help........He accepted his candy......and then, he walked into the house. Since when do you knock on a door, have it opened and not go in?? The looks on people's faces were hysterical :)

Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children

Autism's Hidden Blessings: Discovering God's Promises for Autistic Children Do you have a picture like this? The first time Alec put on a custume, he screamed & tugged at it, melting down in a fit of sensory overload. Needless to say, he didn't go trick-or-treating that night! But a few years later he was happy to don a costume & participate. At one time, I posted Alec's crying photo on my bl...og & received many other comments from ASD parents with similar stories & photos. So... do you have a Trick-or-treat story to share?

I have been hosting Thanksgiving at my house every years since I have lived in SC (about 11 years). My parents, Matt's parents and both our siblings and their familes. Also, my Aunt from FL and Uncle from TX. You get the idea. It's big and gets bigger every year. It's a blast. OF course those first few years were stressful w/ cooking for that... See More many but, it gets easier. Plus, my son who is has Aspergers absolutely LOVES it when the extended family is around. He gets alot of extra special attention when everyone is there. So...my stress is so worth it seeing my son happy and feeling loved by his family.
