Formed in 2002, DARE Network, a grassroots local NGO, is community based, built by its own communities to serve the addiction needs of the displaced people of Burma on the Thai/Burma border.

Supporting DARE has a real impact on the lives of the Burmese Refugees by enabling them to help themselves and each other with their problems with addiction. This is a common problem affecting individuals, their families and the refugee community as a whole. Check out the Friends of DARE facebook group to see refugee artwork that describes how they feel about their own situation.

Proposition 8 in California

I'm a Canadian Avaazer living in California, where there's a big old fight going on over gay marriage. I can't vote, but I care.

This isn't just a religious issue. It's about a network of discrimination that keeps partners out of hospital rooms and prevents more than 1,000 other rights.

Fueled by money from churches, in particular millions from Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints (the Mormons), the proposition to ban gay marriage is winning.

Television ads bought with out-of-state money, largely from Utah, make claims that are misleading and untrue, one example: that churches will lose tax exemption if the proposition fails. It's paid misinformation and it's working. The no campaign can't keep up.

I've supported a number of Avaaz initiatives. This time I'm asking for help. Avaaz is great at putting clear-headed messages on the table. Could a balanced statement from us make a difference?

I'm of Chili, in Sud America, w' are fighted against the centrales hydroelectrificas in the Patagonia, because they represent the destruction economical, ecologycal and human. We need support of the world, the Patagonia is a zone very import to survival in this planet. Thanks.
