Just got the book from the library. It is an intense story. I must admit I am a bit overwhelmed by Emila but she is raw and I like her.

Oooh I love Natalie Portman in this role. J.Lo?!!! Not so much (even tho I hate that phrase.) Glad she dropped out. I "read" the audio book, didn't realize that it was abridged (hate abridged audiobooks, I need to have every word the author intended) so I have to read the text now to see what I missed. The reader did a good job tho. The ... Read Moreauthor did a masterful job telling the tale going from the present to flashing back to the past, kept up the suspense. Also, brilliant job on a protagonist who was not too sympathetic at most times. Have teenage stepson so can relate so some of those situations a bit.
I read this after the Mommy Track books and Bad Mother (which I did not expect to like but was surprised that it wormed its way into my heart, especially the section on "Rocketship," which was very moving.) Next on list is Daughter's Keeper and a book called Manhood for Amateurs.

In this moving, wry, and candid novel, widely acclaimed novelist Ayelet Waldman takes us through one woman’s passage through love, loss, and the ...strange absurdities of modern life.

Emilia Greenleaf believed that she had found her soulmate, the man she was meant to spend her life with. But life seems a lot less rosy when Emilia has to deal with the most neurotic and sheltered five-year-old in New York City: her new stepson William. Now Emilia finds herself trying to flag down taxis with a giant, industrial-strength car seat, looking for perfect, strawberry-flavored, lactose-free cupcakes, receiving corrections on her French pronunciation from her supercilious stepson – and attempting to find balance in a new family that’s both larger, and smaller, than she bargained for. In Love and Other Impossible Pursuits Ayelet Waldman has created a novel rich with humor and truth, perfectly characterizing one woman’s search for answers in a crazily uncertain world.
