B Sharp In honour of the 2010 SydneyGay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, Focus Theatre and B Sharp will present Martin Sherman’s iconic play Bent in the Belvoir St Downstairs Theatre. This brutally honest and powerful drama moves from the decadence of 1930s Berlin to the inhumane excesses of the Nazi concentration camps, explor...ing how love can overcome the most ruthless circumstances.

Tying in with the theme of ‘Mardi Gras History of the World’, Bent brings to light the treatment of homosexuals during the Third Reich who were arrested, interned in concentration camps, and branded as deviants with what is now become a universal symbol for gay pride – the pink triangle.

Bent was written in 1979 by gay Jewish American playwright Martin Sherman. It premiered the same year in London starring Sir Ian McKellen and the subsequent New York production starring Richard Gere won the Tony Award for Best Play.

Bent has since been produced in theatres around the world and continues to profoundly affect audiences with its humanity and integrity. It has been described by the English theatre critic Nicholas de Jongh as ‘one of the most significant plays produced in the post-Second World War theatre’ and the Royal National Theatre included Bent in its list of the 100 most significant plays of the twentieth century.

B Sharp For a night of great music, swinging tunes and charismatic performance you can't go past The Fabulous Frances Faye in Australia directed by Neil Gooding featuring the talented Nick Christo and LB Little Big Band. A tribute to the legendary American band leader Frances Faye, Christo re-creates - without imitating - her ...essence as a performer. With outlandish style, cutthroat vocals and witty quips she rose from the mobster gin joints in the 1920s to become a musical phenomenon across the US in the early 1960s. Nominated for a 2008 Sydney Theatre Critics Award for Best Cabaret, and hot on the heels of a sell-out New York season at Manhattan's iconic Don't Tell Mama The Fabulous Frances Faye in Australia guarantees to be an exhilarating night out!

B Sharp A member of the award-winning theatre group Pig Island, Claudia O'Doherty's debut solo show Monster of the Deep 3D is one of the best new theatrical comedies to hit the circuit. Quirky, clever and outrageously funny, her account of the last surviving member of a futuristic underwater colony will rival any 3D holiday fl...ick! After picking up the Brisbane Comedy Festival Award and Best Comedy Award at the 2009 Melbourne Fringe Festival we are thrilled to present the Sydney premiere at B Sharp.

... this performer is gifted of a talent sufficiently bright to burn your retina ... singular, cunning and actually funny, this show is of the quality for which one hopes but rarely finds. The Age
