Richard Matz. I drive an 18 wheeler and I'm always looking out for cyclists. One time I waved at a group of roadies, and they were shocked. I saw them at a truckstop/restaurant, and they were even more surprised that I ride bikes too.

Seeing more and more bikes on 18wheelers, maybe thats why they are more nice these days.

I got really good at truing rims and wheel building from road cycling in TX. A lot of car drivers will just run you right off the road without blinking. If you confront them at work or the grocery store, they either ignore you or yell "bikes shouldn't be on the road" like you are going to ride in the ditch the whole way just for their fat asses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3nA9ItPXvQ&feature=related

I love mountain biking at night best. I have homebuilt light kits and I used to do amateur mtb races at night. It feels like you are going twice as fast.

I am asking myself that same question. I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old. I believe a trailer would be the safest bet out of the three but it all depends on the situation.

Actually there is a kernel of truth to what Michael says re: cyclists from other nations. Let's forget for a moment which nation exactly people come from; but here in LA, there are many who originally come from places where they ride on sidewalks because that's what's safe. It was even alluded to in an article in Bicycling a year or so ago.

Just ... Read Morethis morning I was honked at by a driver from said nation telling me in Span/English to get on the sidewalk (and before anyone says anything, my own family is from a Latin American country, so that's how I know about this.) It's not a racial/ethnic issue, it's a driver education issue. Customs in the country of origin are one of many reasons that some drivers don't understand the place of cyclists in traffic. So how do we change this? I completely agree with Ann that some driver education is in order.

I agree. I live in New Jersey and I commute on my bike daily and motorists really don't care. I try to be safe with reflectors, lights, etc. Countless times of getting cut off, opening of doors, or drivers just a little too close. I think motorist should ride in our shoes for a day to see what we go through. I'm about to get a jersey that says "... Read MoreSlow down I could your brother". I bet if someone in their family got hit they would be really pissed. Just asking for some consideration motorists!!!!!!!
