THE STORY OF BAD DOBBY

All three of us started playing together as part of the Pink Floyd tribute act Time to Breathe. We left to continue something different a covers band that threw the fun back into live music... Ironically we're now performing back in Time to Breathe and Bad Dobby.

We started getting stuff together in March '07 around that time Rich had to start learning the bass as that was the only thing left to play!

So with a few song ideas and now the completing bass player - Bad Dobby started practicing, funnily enough while visiting Time to Breathe at their first gig without us we managed to secure our first gig so with a target in sight of July, we set about cramming every song we could into as many practices as we could.

Now that's history we are steadily learning around 4 songs a month and our repertoire is growing steadily.

BAD DOBBY ARE:

    Richard Markie

Rich, who is actually a drummer, has been playing bass now since around Jan '07 & drums for 17 years, Playing with some varied groups from orchestra's and big bands to alt rock. "It seemed a logical step to take, plus the fact John had already taken the drum throne, so it was kind of learn it or lose it!.
I've heard it said that the bass is one of the easiest intruments to play but one of the most difficult to master, that is very true.

As for inspiration, at the moment I am just taking in as much as I can that involves the bass, learning as much as possible."

Rich uses a Squire Vintage Modified Precison bass, a Harley Benton bass, Ashdown EB EVO II amp and Line 6 Bass POD XT Live for effects.

    John Sharpe

John started out on his musical journey in brass bands and later marching bands playing cornet and trumpet not drums. John has played the Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall in London and also the NEC Birmingham. Then came the drums playing with bands from the Northants area. Most recently John returned from a lay off and joined Time to Breathe on a helping basis but stayed for over a year working with a great team of people. Next Bad Dobby.

John plays Pearl Masters RetroSpec drums in a fantastic Abalone finish, Zildjian and Sabian cymbals.

    Terry West

Self taught, Terry has been playing guitar since the age of 16 and has played in bands such as Laid To Waste and Adversary, mostly heavy rock, since he was about 18. He was then invited to join Wilfred Hyde White, a classic rock band and quickly gelled with the existing band members, who included John. The band progressed and changed through the years, becoming Area 51 and then Chaos Theory, playing such prestigious venues as Leicester City FC and Blenheim Palace.

Previous to playing the guitar, Terry played the keyboards as a hobby, achieving Grade 5 on the electronic organ and a gold medal from Technics Music Academy.

From a young age, Terry sung in choirs and shows in fantastic venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Kings College - Cambridge, Bath Abbey, Bristol Cathedral, Wells Cathedral, Peterborough Cathedral and theatres such as the McKinley.

Terry uses Fender, Ibanez & Gibson guitars, Marshall amps and a Line 6 POD XT Live for effects.

... was had at the Rover, everyone was up for some energetic jumping - good clapping actions on My Chem Romance! Keep that energy up Rover.

We'll see you on the 8th May for some more Dobby style entertainment.

Bad Dobby's new songs for the year are bound to get some screams... currently we have just picked up Snow Patrols - Take Back the City & The Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire...

There is even talk of us having a crack at a song from each of the following artists: Mika, The Police, Metallica & Tight Fit - but you'll have to come to a gig soon to see if we'll release them to the unsuspecting public.

A great 2009 is already booked for Bad Dobby - why not help us make it even bigger by sending our link to the page to all your friends? Lets get Bad Dobby well known around Northamptonshire - We can only do it with all your help... Let's face it, at the moment Live music is taking a knock with all the venues and pubs closing down - lets show everyone that there is still a need to live music and come out and support us.
Bad Dobby have just secured the New Years eve gig at The Windmill Club in Rushden.

We'll be bringing the new year in Dobby style and hope as many people as possible can join us to see in 2009!

As we get more information and we get closer to the event we'll be updating you on how you can come along to this great night.
