Great review. I'm a little disappointed that it appears the filmmakers rewrote Westchester county as Emilia's roots rather than Bergen, NJ. I guess people don't realize that they're practically the same in terms of upper middle class NYC suburbia.

Bad Mother by Ayelet Waldman A nice review of Bad Mother from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star tribune.

www.startribune.com
What acts of abuse or neglect inspired Ayelet Waldman to title her memoir "Bad Mother"? Did she lock the kids in the basement? Leave them alone while she went out bar-hopping? Fly into rages over the use of wire hangers? Not exactly. Most of wh

We know it's insane. We know people will ask why on earth we think that an 1875 British satirical novel is the book you need to read right now—or, for that matter, why it even made the cut. The fact is, no one needs another best-of list telling you how great The Great Gatsby is. ...

This is an excellent chapter. My oldest is only 6, but I think a lot about how we'll handle the sex issue as she ages and our mother-daughter relationship progresses. The stakes are just so high now.. and your chapter explores it in such an honest, self-revealing way. I so appreciate it.

I agree. I just read this chapter last night. My only daughter was all things magical for Halloween (my favorite was the year she wanted to be a "wedding mommy" and I sewed pearls and rosettes on her little white thrift store dress until my fingers were raw). She's off to college this year, but now I worry about my two young sons and the junior high "hos" that ring the doorbell (and oh yeah, it's only July).
