Proposed changes to EU legislation could end the UK's legal requirement to use alternatives to animal experiments where "reasonably and practically available."

Removal of the "alternative clause" would be a step backwards in the effort to develop to in vitro and alternative toxicology methods for the safety assessment of chemicals, consumer products and cosmetics.

It would be unwise to use unvalidated alternatives, decisions to use and accept alternative toxicology methods should be based on sound science and societal pressures fueled by emotion and ignorance.

There is still a long way to go before the full assessment of a compound can be done without using animals. What is needed is more funding of projects that develop and validate alternative methods that eliminate animal models. ... See More

I am against animal testing in general. Todays research doesn't need the use of animals, and besides, after testing on animals, they end up testing on humans. UCLA campus has horrific animal testing laboratories that are so inhumane and unnecessary.
