The 106 year old Santa Fe No. 940 is very rare.
She is the sole survivor of the 342 "2-10-2" type engines built for the AT&SF who commissioned her design.
Only 50 AT&SF steam locomotives were saved from the scrap heap.

SantaFe No. 940 Felt very strange not to go to Christmas Eve service so we took a drive downtown to see No. 940 in the blowing snow. I think she is beautiful.
SantaFe No. 940 Thanks to all the onlookers who braved the cold to watch this historic moment. Those who were at the depot when she was set down were invited to gather in front of No. 940 for a community photo. It is the one with everyone holding the "Welcome Home" banner.

SantaFe No. 940 My Charlie observed the lift with a family from Texas who are traveling the country with their home-schooled children. Yesterday they pulled into B'ville to visit the Nellie Johnstone oil well. Instead, they got to see rare site of lift of 106 year old locomotive. Serendipity can be fun.
SantaFe No. 940 The STC and Taylor Crane folks start on time or a little early. When they say she will start moving out of the park at 9:00 tomorrow - they mean it.
SantaFe No. 940 Some of us were commenting today how small the locomotive seemed once she was disconnected from tender and loaded on trailer. She is going to be lovely on her new track at the depot
SantaFe No. 940 There are great photos on the website and media is taking quite an interest. We hear OETA and Channel 6 will cover it. Tulsa World has photographer on assignment. Pioneer Productions has been hired by our "crew" to video tape all aspects of the lift and move. I can't remember which train/railway magazine is asking ...for info. Maybe after a good night's sleep it will come back to me.
SantaFe No. 940 The lift onto the trailer is scheduled for 10:00 tomorrow and the tender lift will be around 1:00. Nothing is moving out of the park tomorrow. I know the weather may be wintry but No. 940 can take it even if we can't.
SantaFe No. 940 Test lift went well today and quite a crowd gathered just to watch her come up about six inches. Now have accurate weight - 160,000 at the front and 115,000 at the back for a total of 275,000. Our data says weight on drivers at 253,000 and engine weight (dry) 298,000. You railroaders will know what all this means. I just know it's a "wow".
SantaFe No. 940 The cost to make her operational is at least one million. Right now I want to raise the remaining $30,000 to $40,000 to do cosmetic restoration that will enhance her as a static display and complete amenities around her. At least we are giving her care and attention she deserves.
