Celebrate five decades of folk music in Newport, RI, August 1 – 2 at George Wein’s FOLK FESTIVAL 50. The 2009 festival, which takes over Fort Adams State Park from 11:30 am – 7:00 pm each day, will celebrate 50 years of rich history in Newport, where Pete Seeger and Joan Baez helped shape the course of American music. ...This summer, they return to usher in the next 50 years, performing alongside Judy Collins and Arlo Guthrie on a festival bill that also heralds folk music's bright, expansive future with sets by The Decemberists, Neko Case, Fleet Foxes, Gillian Welch, The Avett Brothers, Iron & Wine, Ben Kweller and many more.

Barton & Gray Mariners Club The Newport Bucket is an invitational regatta set in the Corinthian spirit. The regatta is open to yachts over 90’ (27M) L.O.A., unless invited under the Grandfather Clause. The venue will be based at Newport Shipyard, alongside the marquee.

Nantucket Race Week is an eight-day experience that marshals the entire Nantucket community together in a fun-filled week of regattas, awards ceremonies, and parties. The races provide sport for everyone from young dinghy sailors and families in the household knockabout to grand prix racers at the very top of their pro...fession. The racing begins on Saturday, August 8, 2009 with events scheduled daily through Sunday, August 16, 2009. We are proud to announce that we are working with Sailors for the Sea to designate Nantucket Race Week as a Clean Regatta.

Lufthansa is returning for its fourth season as sponsor of the Polo Series, fielding a competitive team to challenge Newport.

The in-port racing during this edition of the Volvo Ocean Race is sure to be among the highlights of the entire event. This is the closest that spectators can get to the action without actually being on board one of the race boats.
The in-port race is a critical component of the Volvo Ocean Race. Not only do the in-port... races award 20% of the total race points on offer, but they are an integral part of the spectacle of the race. This is when the public can see man and machine engage in battle in very close quarters. The race course for the in-port race is always close to shore, so even if you can’t get out on a spectator boat, the nearest beach or breakwater may offer just as good a view.
