- Batucaxé is a drum and dance ensemble and school in Tucson, Arizona. Inspired by the music of Brazil, Batucaxé (pronounced bah-too-cah-SHEH) features the music of many traditions, from Brazil and all over the world. Our goal is to inspire creativity, openness, community solidarity and collective joy, through lessons and classes, outreach programs and high-energy performances.
"Batucaxé" is a combination of "batuca", or drum beat, and "axé", the life-force in all things, and the power to make things happen. We invite you to share that power with us through the drums, rhythms, songs and dance. - Genre:

There is some LIVE drumming happening in this town this weekend, for sure!
The Taiko Plus show rocked on Friday... Odaiko Sonora is a Tucson treasure!
The Taiko Samba party that spilled outside afterward was pure community joy...and hot drumming as well!!
And then there is the Live drumming that happens in our **Sunda...y dance class***!
Come on out for class today and move your body to that super fine drumming...Samba Afro and Samba Reggae style!
After class, head on over to the theater for the Taiko Plus show!! Jump up on stage with Batucaxé and Odaiko Sonora during the finale, and do those fresh moves! :)

WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH BATUCAXÉ THIS WEEK
Mix Japanese drummers and dancers with an Afro-Brazilian bateria and dancers, and what do you get? It's "taiko," it's "samba," it's "Taiko Samba!" Our friends at Odaiko Sonora have invited Batucaxé to come together to create something out of this world! Music, dancing, two cultures, wonderful rhythms, movement and beats.
What: Taiko Plus! A concert by Odaiko Sonora, featuring collaborations with Thom Lewis Dance, Theatrical Mime Theatre and Batucaxé.
When: Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at 7:00pm
Location: Stevie Eller Dance Theatre - University of Arizona Campus, 1737 E. University Blvd.
