USCGC PENOBSCOT BAY (WTGB 107) Happy Holidays to everyone from PENOBSCOT BAY! Special thanks to those who are standing watch onboard to keep the ship safe during this holiday season. It is especially tough duty this year, and I also want to thank the friends and family who are missing their sailors for their sacrifice and support. We couldn't do it without you. THANK YOU!!

USCGC PENOBSCOT BAY (WTGB 107) OK PENOBSCOT BAY sailors - quick question: How far has PBAY ever sailed? We don't usually keep these types of records, so I'm looking to get memories. I'm pretty sure Key West is the farthest South, but what about East, West, North?

Where was it constructed? If I remember right it was somewhere on the west coast, but I might be completely wrong. I know it says on the plaque above the ladder.

After a keel laying on July 1, 1983, PENOBSCOT BAY was launched by Bay City Marine, Inc., at Tacoma, Washington, on July 20, 1984. After steaming down the West Coast of the United States, through the Panama Canal, and up the Eastern Seaboard, she was commissioned at Governor's Island, New York, on January 4, 1985.

There was talk of it doing migrant ops but I dont think that ever happened and there was also talk of a beer run to Nova Scotia last time it went to the ST Lawrence but for some reason that didnt happen either

Hats off to the crew for their fine work and dedication sailing the ship almost 2,000 miles from New York to Cleveland through an extremely challenging transit!!! Two lakes down, three to go!!

Ahoy and good morning everyone, Just wanted to report that we finished transiting the St. Lawrence Seaway. We did all five locks in 2 days. There has been lots of ice production in the last 72 hours, it's been remarkable how much is here...

The weather takes some time to understand it. Sea smoke is quite common this time of year and I have seen pictures in the middle of the winter on the lakes with ice all around and sea smoke is on top of the ice. Glad you made the seaway , next is the ditch 9Welland) Ice can slow lock age in the ditch this time of year for the big boats. welcome to the ice season.

USCGC PENOBSCOT BAY (WTGB 107) So just when we think we're done with seas, wind and freezing spray, we get hit with 50+ knots of wind and 6 ft seas on the beam in the river. This is what it takes to remove ice after an event like that. The air temp was around 10 degrees.

Ahoy and good morning everyone, We successfully crossed the Gulf of St. Lawrence with no major issues, although we lost some efficiency due to weather. This is such an isolated place! Getting reliable and accurate weather was somewhat difficult...

Ahoy everyone, So far it has been a good trip. Everyone is doing really well. I'd like to say thank you to CDR Flaherty from Sector NY for coming out to say goodbye, and to CGC STURGEON BAY for handling lines and taking some pics of us getting underway...

The Great Lakes are angry today. Wind's blowing up to 50 knots, seas are picking up to the 10-15 foot range and temperature's dropping from the 40's down to the 20's! We should even see snow by the end of the day. Looks like winter's trying to make its first appearance.

Lucky dog, tried for three years to get them to let me to do it. I did get to Key West, not a bad trade off. Enjoy the long trip.
