Okay, so, years ago, I built a floating wand for a friend who saw someone use it on the Playa. I ended up building it completely to specs (based only on his rather vague description). But he never liked it until he bought a non-fire version from Flow Toys. Well I spent a little time with Sean and Prizna at Fire Drums, ...and they were happy to have me knock out fire versions of this tool.
The really odd part was that my original version was all brass with one wick. But I wanted more out of the tool and started prototyping the one above. The idea is that you can use it for both fire eating/fleshing shows AND as a solo tool that "floats" on it's own. In the final tages, someone pointed out that a swedish site (salza), already had a version like it. Thing is, this site is known for lifting other people's designs (including more than one of my own). So, even thought I didn't lift this from them, I think I like the idea of them thinking I did. :)

The black string disappears once this tool is lit. You can use it as a double-ended perfect torch, a small baton, or as a floating wand. Some people can't get the hang of the floating wand, and just clip the string to add another weapon in their eating arsenal. You can always add some string later (it's just our kevlar thread). :)

Bearclaw Manufacturing So, here's a Facebook exclusive. i just finished the first two prototypes of our floating wand. But instead of just a burning stick, I'm going with a prototype that looks like out "Perfect Torches". With two heads it will look like a fleshing torch, bu

Fire Breathing Survey
A couple months ago, a boston area man entered the hospital with burns from learning fire breathing. Unfortunate for him, but the accident may lead to some good. An attending surgeon has taken an interest in fire breathers and has been working with NAFAA to produce some clear information regardin...g fire breathing and the various fire arts. We ask that you support this effort in any way you can, so that we can benefit from the results of actual, scientific research in our area. The first step is a survey for fire breathers. If you have breathed fire in any capacity, you are encouraged to fill it out. If you have not, please forward to any fire breathers you may know. Here's the link:

Rope Torch meteor by Bearclaw
http://www.bearclawmfg.com/catalog/rope- torch-p-272.html
This is Nathan using his rope torch at Knott's Berry Farm during a Halloween show 2008. The rope torch is a new spin on the meteor hammer: two torches connected by a rope just long enough to reach one torch by holing the other and sli...ding down the rope. it offers a wide variety of styles as illustrated here.
