Bearded Magazine

Bearded Magazine With a celebration of the birth of Christ around the corner, it’s rather apt that the man christened by John Peel as “the new God” is having a celebration of his own this Christmas.

Grandmaster Gareth has put together a line-up of the great and good of Birmingham for a Friday night invasion of London at 93 Feet East, wi...th his endlessly lauded band Misty’s Big Adventure, Huw Stephens approved KateGoes, Pram man Matt Eaton’s side project Micronormous and the wondrously wacky Bom and his Magic Drumstick.

Elsewhere, there is VJing from FilmFicciones, DJ sets from Simon Maragh (Dog Food Records / Betty & the Id), Martin Brimicombe (I Blame the Parents Records) and Gareth Main (Bearded Magazine / Fleeing from Pigeons). More to be announced.

Bearded Magazine After the overly loud joys of the last Bearded event, we're getting a little quieter for this one. At Cafe Oto on Friday 27 March, we have a stunning line-up of some of the most talented singletons in Britain today.

Tickets, priced £5, can be bought from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/44388

John Fairhurst

John Fairhurs...t’s musical path began when he was just a small child in Wigan, when Indian Sarod master, K Sridhar, came to stay with his family. In awe of Sridhar’s dedication to his art, John soon followed him into music, developing an early love for Miles Davis, Nick Drake, and Jimi Hendrix.

After travelling the world, John poured all he had learned into a melting-pot of an album, the stunning 'Joys of Spring', steeped in a sense of the worldwide music community. His beautiful debut has seen John hailed as a “one man explosion of blues, Indian ragas and baroque folk”, which in turn has propelled John into more mainstream circles, earning him the opportunity to perform in front of audiences who wouldn’t normally get the chance to encounter such wonder.

His live set is something to behold, the most talented bluesman Britain has ever produced, and perfectly suited to the intimate surroundings of the fabulous Cafe Oto.

Holton's Opulent Oog
A more beautiful album than Holton Opulent Oog's 'The Problem of Knowledge' has never been produced on a budget of £100. Upon its release in 2007, it was heralded from critics of both the alternative press (Bearded, Plan B) and the mainstream press (NME) for its minimal alt. country twangs.

Since then Nick Holton and his Oog have been working on the follow up. Due for release later this year, this rare show for the band prior to its release will certainly showcase a special taste of what is to come.

Olivia Chaney
Haunting, majestic and truly stunning, London's Olivia Chaney brings traditional folk back into a world of alt. folk. With her celestial voice filling any space she finds herself in, it will be like The Wicker Man is being soundtracked all over again, bring your torches!

Andy Price
Something of a staple on the alternative Bristol music circuit, Andy is better known for his role in alt. punk rockers Dig for Fire, twee folk band The AFB Band and as a part of Joshua Banks' underground series of obtuse pop nonsense. For this show he'll be acoustically showcasing tracks from his previous projects, as well as any tracks the prolific writer might have come up with on the cross-country journey.
