Belfast Farmers' Market
On Friday, October 23, the Belfast Farmers' Market moves uptown for the last of the year's Street Festivals, to take place on Upper Main. Visitors to the market can enjoy the delights of the late season harvest, including apples and cider, winter squashes, storage root crops, and the bounty of this year's harvest baked... into treats both savory and sweet, and processed for long-term storage as jellies, chutneys, salsas, pickles, and spreads. Many market vendors are also presently accepting special orders for quantities of storage vegetables and large orders of pork, beef, and chicken for stocking the winter freezer.
The Belfast Farmers' Market will wrap up its outdoor season with a final market at the waterfront location on Friday, October 30th, and will then move to its indoor, winter location at Aubuchon Hardware. Visitors can visit the winter market every Friday from 9am to noon through December 18th at 231 Northport Ave. (Route 1) in Belfast.
The Belfast Farmers' Market is open every Friday, rain or shine, from 9am-1pm through early November, and is permanently located on Front St., down at the Belfast waterfront. Market-goers can expect to find local goat's and cow's milk cheeses, specialty baked goods, dips, and spreads, grass-fed meats, locally-raised chicken and eggs, honey, hand-crafted goods ranging from baskets to pottery, fresh and dried flowers, and a changing selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The Belfast Farmers' Market was established in 1980 to provide local small growers and craftsmen with an outlet for the sale of fresh picked produce and related agricultural products; to foster an appreciation for Maine's rural resources; and to develop sources of marketing, management and agricultural information for its members. The Belfast Farmers' Market functions as a non-profit membership organization that oversees the establishment of market guidelines, sets quality standards, promotes the market, and encourages growth of the local/regional food supply. All vendors must carry necessary and appropriate licenses and insurances. Please check the website, _www.belfastfarmersmarket.org <http://www.belfastfarmersmarket.org/>_, for more information about market members and coming events.Read More

A particularly high-profile farmers market opened in Washington, D.C., this week. It's just two blocks from the White House — and the first customer was the first lady. Michelle Obama shopped for potatoes, peppers and Tuscan kale with Secret Service agents all around.

Belfast Farmers' Market We're up on Main Street this week for our monthly street festival, featuring music by Blue Rutabaga. Rain or Shine! See you there.

On Friday, September 18, the Belfast Farmers' Market moves uptown for a monthly Street Festival on Upper Main. Visitors to the festival can enjoy a performance by local musical group Blue Rutabaga, as well as the bounty of fall's harvest. The days are getti...ng shorter, but September is a month when the fields are at their most productive. Market visitors can still find most of the summer offerings, like lettuce and cukes, alongside fall staples like apples and cider, winter squashes, the first of the storage roots, and fall brassicas.
While this season's rutabagas are still making their way to the markets, Blue Rutabaga—composed of local musicians Chris Grigsby on acoustic and electric guitar, Tom Luther on piano, Mike Knowles on bass, and Jason Dean on drums—will be easy to find at the festival. The group, formed in 2009, performs a mix of original music and obscure covers, and many of the band members spend time at their day jobs working to ensure that local consumers can enjoy foods grown and produced by area farmers and cheesemakers.

Belfast Farmers' Market
On Friday, August 21, the Belfast Farmers' Market moves uptown for a monthly Street Festival on Upper Main. Visitors to the festival can enjoy original music performed by Agharta Jazz, as well as an ever-growing selection of the summer's freshest, seasonal fruits and vegetables alongside market staples. Shoppers will f...ind juicy tomatoes, tender young roots, new potatoes, fresh pestos, summer squashes, and fruit-filled pastries and confections, just to highlight a few of the abundant late summer offerings.
Agharta Jazz is a modern jazz ensemble performing mostly newly written original works as well as a few works of composer and bassist Charles Mingus. The group was founded by Union based pianist and composer Tom Luther, who took the name “Agharta” from a Miles Davis album. The name itself refers to a Tibetan myth about a land hidden inside the earth, which was something of a paradise and home to the city of Shamabala. Seeking their own paradise, the band builds its sound from the Miles Davis Quintet and John Coltrane's quartet of the mid 1960s and blends improvisation and ensemble performance into their own unique mix.
Agharta Jazz is Mike Whitehead on trumpet and flugelhorn, Tom Luther on piano, Doug Kennedy on bass, and Jeff Densmore on drums. There is no admission charge for this performance, but donations will be accepted. For more information about the ensemble, including upcoming performances, visit www.agharta-jazz.com <http://www.agharta-jazz.com/>.
