Belfast Farmers' Market
On Friday, October 23, the Belfast Farmers' Market moves uptown for the last of the year's Street Festivals, to take place on Upper Main. Visitors to the market can enjoy the delights of the late season harvest, including apples and cider, winter squashes, storage root crops, and the bounty of this year's harvest baked... into treats both savory and sweet, and processed for long-term storage as jellies, chutneys, salsas, pickles, and spreads. Many market vendors are also presently accepting special orders for quantities of storage vegetables and large orders of pork, beef, and chicken for stocking the winter freezer.
The Belfast Farmers' Market will wrap up its outdoor season with a final market at the waterfront location on Friday, October 30th, and will then move to its indoor, winter location at Aubuchon Hardware. Visitors can visit the winter market every Friday from 9am to noon through December 18th at 231 Northport Ave. (Route 1) in Belfast.
The Belfast Farmers' Market is open every Friday, rain or shine, from 9am-1pm through early November, and is permanently located on Front St., down at the Belfast waterfront. Market-goers can expect to find local goat's and cow's milk cheeses, specialty baked goods, dips, and spreads, grass-fed meats, locally-raised chicken and eggs, honey, hand-crafted goods ranging from baskets to pottery, fresh and dried flowers, and a changing selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The Belfast Farmers' Market was established in 1980 to provide local small growers and craftsmen with an outlet for the sale of fresh picked produce and related agricultural products; to foster an appreciation for Maine's rural resources; and to develop sources of marketing, management and agricultural information for its members. The Belfast Farmers' Market functions as a non-profit membership organization that oversees the establishment of market guidelines, sets quality standards, promotes the market, and encourages growth of the local/regional food supply. All vendors must carry necessary and appropriate licenses and insurances. Please check the website, _www.belfastfarmersmarket.org <http://www.belfastfarmersmarket.org/>_, for more information about market members and coming events.
