Lone Pine Coffee Roasters is discussing the cortado today. after months of verbal debate and a morning of research (that is, reading several blogs/wikipedia/etc, then making a few different versions and passing them to taste...) we have found a balance of authenticity and beauty in the beverage we will serve henceforth under the title "cortado...." basically a tiny latte, about 5oz--milk+half n half and served in a glass. gorgeous, delicious.

Sounds unappealing. But hear me out first!

And know that I HAVEN'T tasted one, (or read much besides wikipedia on the 'cortado')....

It seems like a capp, but without microfoam (or very little at least). The thing is (for me at least) a capp isn't so much about flavor, it is about texture. I enjoy the texture of a well made capp, more than the flavor, but the cortado seems to be a texture-less cappuccino.... See More

I guess I am just all talk though, I need to try one.

I guess I will have to make a few on my next shift, especially since our espresso has been a bit sour lately.

I believe the rich, sweet creaminess of the steamed half-n-half with the nutty/carmelesque palate of the Heartwood Blend makes for a delicious and unique frou-frou drink. Not a cappucino, not a latte, and not quite a macchiato, but the perfect ratio for a "Cortado". Although, I have not truly tasted it today either, because my taste buds are all goofy today from sickness.

Lone Pine Coffee Roasters Sandwiches! We're calling our new project the "trifecta" because it is a winning combination of three delicious ingredients on a freshly-baked baguette. oh la la! Each day we are making something different...menu to be published weekly...my fave this week: prosciutto/orange butter/spinach.

Lone Pine Coffee Roasters New Coffees have Arrived!! Nicaragua Nicajava, Brazil (for our espresso) and decaf espresso blend! Scott will be roasting the first batch of Nicaragua this afternoon and it will undoubtedly be on french press manana. mmmm
