As a civil engineering student heavily interested in building science, architecture, urban design and planning, I've never been so excited about books in my life until I got here (I really want to read every book in this library!). Andy Shanken The staff of the Environmental Design Library repeatedly surprises me with its ability to go beyond the call of duty to help students, professors, and the public. Elizabeth Byrne has helped me track down obscure copyrights of images for my scholarship; she has located rare materials that are vital for my research; and,... astoundingly, she keeps me apprised of new publications in my field as they arrive at the library. The library staff has given personal, engaging presentations to my large lecture courses about research, including ten separate sessions for 170a, which has 250 students. This is such important work in the computer age, when students hesitate to crack open books, but have little idea what a fraction of published work can be found on the web. Bravo E.D.L.!
