As a former Texas A&M student, I always felt out of place in Aggieland as I'm gay, liberal, and artistic, and the town seems to lack a great deal of imagination in architecture, presentations like poetry readings, music concerts, visual art displays. My friends and I have always felt that we were being "homogenized" in the town and on the campus, ... Read Moreand our only outlet into the world of "difference" was to visit Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio on frequent road trips. As I lived in Aggieland nearly twenty years, how can a decline in funding for the arts in the community be of any benefit whatsoever? Such a drop in spending represents a communal lack of investment in stimulating the creativity and psychologucal breadth of the youth living and growing up in the are, plus it leaves visitors wondering what the "culture" and "personality" of College Station really is. Do we really want to be known mainly for Dudley's Draw and the Dixie Chicken?--Bill Hooton
