These vases were commissioned by my friend, William, as a birthday gift for his wife, Deborah. Each piece starts with a simple glass vase. The polymer clay is added in small pieces. No paint is ever used.
You'll see from the process photos how the colored clay is mixed up into a multi-colored log and then loaded in...to an extruder gun with a square pattern disk. A looooooong square snake is extruded, which is then cut down and stack up to make a block of snakes. Thin slices are cut from the block and applied to the vase. The most time-consuming part of the project was melding all the slices together into a smooth, consistent surface.
