Bill Devall Memorial ...sign of the eternal changing of seasons...in winters memory...wrapped in an enveloping ancient Redwood canopy...Bill's spirit lives on...a soft illuminating light...on a winters solstice~
Carl Zichella I first met Bill in 1979 when he served as the HSU staff advisor to the Redwood Alliance, which I became a member of. We shared a deep friendship with Lucille Vinyard, a commitment to Buddhism, and an understanding that environmental work was the work of lifetimes, which is why he encouraged so many people to get invo...lved. I was very flattered when he asked me to review the gallies of Deep Ecology before it appeared in print. His encouragement meant everything to me, especially in the early years of my getting involved. Though we had our differences, I never lost my fondness or respect for him. I will miss him greatly, and our movement would be diminished by his absence if it wasn't for the fact that he brought so many others into this work who will carry him in their hearts. I will always remember him meditating on Baker Beach at sunset, a place and time we often ran into each other.
Bill Devall Memorial ...when I asked Bill to sign this book...he looked at me with a very questioning expression and wondered why I would want him to sign it (almost like I was crazy!)...he was so funny at times...so humble too~

Bill Devall Memorial ...I dedicate tonite's sunset to Bill...it reminds me of him...he had such a vast perspective on nature...expansive and futuristic...I think...I hope that someday the whole world may come to know his books~
