On Tuesday, July 28, the Standing Committee, the Deans and the Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina met at the Church of the Good Shepherd. The atmosphere was prayerful, focused, intense, deeply trusting of one another and the Bishop, and with a sense that the stakes are very, very high...

Admin. note: People have been asking for a while now what the Diocese of SC is "going to do". Here is the resolution submitted by Bishop Lawrence and passed quickly by our diocese. If you have questions, let us know...

I think what the resolution says, in part is: “.....so this same diocese does also assert its authority to freely embrace such a Covenant in communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury, and to seek to remain a constituent member of the Anglican Communion, should the Instruments of Unity allow such diocesan association.” In other words, they reserve... See More the right to “freely associate” with Canterbury on their own, especially if the Diocese of South Carolina wants to commit to the (still in the works) Anglican Covenant, and TEC decides as a whole not to. This lets SC decide themselves, as a diocese (the individual governing body for the Episcopal church in the U.S. - General Convention just being all the dioceses gathered together), to remain or not within the Anglican Communion, if TEC decided to reject any Covenant. But SC still sees itself with TEC and this resolution does nothing to change that.

It sounds like that some of the people in the Diocese want to go the conservative route and leave TEC and others want to stay with TEC. Oh my it leads to heartbreak and misery in the end.
