Bjørn Lomborg Happy New Year! Here's hoping 2010 will be the year for smarter political thinking on climate change. For those who wanted something in English, here is the link to my recent Financial Times op-ed.

Bjørn Lomborg The failure of COP15 may be just the wake-up call the world has needed. Here is my latest op-ed (in Danish from Jyllands-Posten)

Heldigvis kan det totale kollaps for internationale aftaler om dramatiske og øjeblikkelige CO2{--}reduktioner vise sig at være den øjenåbner, der skal til for, ...

COPENHAGEN – December 18, 2009 – The near-empty treaty that has emerged from the Copenhagen climate summit shows that promising to cut carbon emissions is a dead-end strategy, says Dr. Bjørn Lomborg, director of the Copenhagen Consensus Center. “T...

Increased atmospheric moisture and solar reflectivity, driven by surface, and sub oceanic increases, in geothermal and volcanic activity, exacerbated by "deep solar quiet" (NASA), are, unfortunately, not a hoax too. Fluff your fur kitties.

Bjørn Lomborg The media filled up a press conference room waiting for Obama... until the UN Press people stepped on stage and announced that Obama has no plans for a press conference! The UN says "there may be a press conference by someone in a couple of hours". Bizarre.

Bjørn Lomborg Wow, complete disarray and confusion here at the Summit. Will there be a weak deal or no deal at all? Just about to talk to BBC World Service and then BBC News.

Bjørn Lomborg Many more rumors flying around out here - including the suggestion from Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende that everything will wrap up in two hours and "It's everybody against China behind closed doors" (link below).

Bjørn Lomborg Obama's speech is being widely panned as a disappointment by NGOs and activists at the Bella Center. Seems like he flew here to repeat what we already knew... Here was my take on it (in Danish from Jyllands-Posten)

jp.dk
Miljødebattør Bjørn Lomborg mener, at mange i dag - uden grund vil græde lidt, fordi verden ikke fik en klimaaftale. Massiv skuffelse blandt ngo’er.

Bjørn Lomborg All sorts of rumors at the COP15 Summit at the Bella Center - including one that the negotiations will continue until Sunday. It's very unclear what's going to happen, but seems very unlikely any meaningful deal's going to emerge. I'll keep you posted.

One thing's for sure: here in the U.S. most ordinary folks rate 'Climate Change' slightly greater in importance than whether or not their dog's getting enough B12 in its diet....which is to say, not at all.

Bjørn Lomborg Here's an article in English - an op-ed in today's Wall Street Journal. I also had a piece in Sunday's News of the World, which isn't online. (Pretty cool - the biggest US paper, and the biggest English language newspaper!)

In The Wall Street Journal, Bjorn Lomborg writes that investing in energy R&D might work, but mandated emissions cuts won't.

nice article. But i want to ask why is the promotion if 'less meat consumption' not higher up on any agenda, esp CC but for all environmental/ecological and i dare say even poverty issues in developing countries. between the UNFAO and recent worldwatch study the GHG contribution is anywhere from 18-51%, easily the biggest and hence for everyone, ... See Moreesp big meat eaters in developed countries its the most effective way to cut emissions. If you dig deeper into crazy farm subsidies and the ultimate effects it has had on mexico/south america, Africa, asia.. - it also seems like the obvious solution?
Look I'm no crazy vegan (not that vegans are crazy...), but when I read about all the environment affects from meat production it seems like the most pragmatic and logical place to start if one was serious about saving the planet and the environment would be with our food choices.

Bjorn you remain one of the few prominent clear thinkers on this topic. There is warming, it is human caused, yet we must process the problem and the potential actions rationally. Why is this obvious course of action so elusive?
