My mom read my first (and so far only) published book.
"There's nothing wrong with it," she said, sounding surprised.

My mom has never read any of my screenplays but it doesn't stop her from commenting on them, having heard me talk about them endlessly.

Blake Snyder Day One

* Bring in one or more movie ideas and re-write according to the four elements of a successful logline.
* Pitch your ideas to the class and discuss which is strongest — and why.
* Perfect the logline to include type of protagonist, type of antagonist, and the “ironic open question” that all great movie... concepts share.
* Break your story by focusing on the midpoint. By the end of day one you will have the “spine” of the story

Day Two

* Using the Blake Snyder Beat Sheet (the BS2), “beat out” your script idea in class with class comments.
* Pitch to the class in a “dry run” that includes the 15 scenes every successful movie must have.
* Dazzle the class with your final presentation, all 15 beats told using the Board.
* Limited to 12 students.

Turn your idea into the beginning of a well-structured screenplay

Blake Snyder If you want to take your writing to the next level in 2009, there is no better guide than "one of Hollywood's most successful spec screenwriters," whose breakthrough storytelling methods are now in use at major studios and production companies worldwide.

Learn the tactics to turn your idea into a "story that resonates" ...and get a preview of Blake's latest book, Save the Cat!® Strikes Back: More Trouble For Screenwriters To Get Into… And Out Of.

Move from concept to logline to structure to execution of specific scenes as Blake demonstrates techniques used to create, write, and sell your story, including new tips revealed for the first time:

* The difference between the "pitch" and the "logline" — and why you must learn how to craft the perfect version of each.
* An in-depth look at the Blake Snyder Beat Sheet: the 15 beats of every story, with focus on "Bad Guys Close In," "All Is Lost," "Dark Night of the Soul," and the "Turn into Act Three."
* An overview of Blake's 10 genres, with special attention to the "surprise" hits of the new year — and beat-by-beat examples of both low-budget independent films and studio blockbusters from Blake's Save the Cat!® Goes to the Movies.
* Why the B Story must tie into the Theme, which can only be resolved in the hero's "Moment of Clarity" that every story is about.
* What key lesson is found in a "Tom and Jerry" cartoon you will never forget — and always use — when writing a story.
* The secret of the never-fail "Five Point Finale" to help you find the "Storming the Castle" beats of any Act Three climax.

These and other essentials of the Save the Cat!® method — and much more — will be revealed in a fun, fast-paced, 2-day seminar.

PLUS: The chance to pitch your story to Blake with in-class feedback, work out its beats, and position you to sell in 2009!
