The Funny Bone

Friday, N...ovember 20th 8pm and 10:30pm

You may recognize Robert from his appearances on Comedy Central Presents Robert Hawkins, Premium Blend or Shorties Watchin’ Shorties, which air regularly on that network. He also appeared on the Oxygen network in a hidden camera show called Revenge of The Boys. Fans of the FOX sitcom Titus may remember Robert as the lowlife brother in-law, Michael. In 2001 while working for a story editor, his creativity prompted the show’s producers to cast him in that co-starring role. Robert also showcased his stand-up on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson in February 2006, and 2007 on CMT’s Comedy Stage. In July of 2008 Robert returned to Montreal for the Comedy Festival and performed on Gala Show which is aired on the CBC in Canada.
Previously in 2005 Robert performed at the Montreal Comedy Festival for the second time in his career. His hilarious sets in the Masters series resulted in an encore performance at the Best of the Fest show in 2008.
Not bad for a high school drop out who joined the Army in 1985 because he was in his words, “eighteen and sick and tired of 10th grade.” Growing up as a lower middle class latchkey kid in South Florida, Robert felt he was heading for a dead end life style so he decided serving Uncle Sam would help him focus on his future. Odds were against him lasting one day in the military, so who would have guessed he’d serve three years as an Air Assault qualified combat medic at Ft. Hood, TX. He got out with an honorable discharge and an Army Commendation Medal. The Good Conduct Medal, however, eluded him.
In 1990 Hawkins finally decided to heed the encouragement from his friends to try stand up comedy in Dallas, TX. He developed a comedy act at the Dallas Improv and never looked back. In 1993 he won the California State University Comedy Competition. In 1994 he was a finalist in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition, prompting a move to the bay area where he worked as a sketch writer for the Johnny Steele Morning Radio Show.
In 1996 a clever and unique set at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal garnered a development deal with the FOX network. Late Night with Conan O’Brien followed, along with appearances on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, Showtime, A&E and The Bob and Tom Radio Show.
In 2001 Robert was voted one of the top 25 comics by comedy club owners for the American Comedy Awards. He continues to write for television and tours relentlessly, making people laugh worldwide, including the armed forces in Kuwait, Iraq, Korea, Japan, Bosnia, Germany and Brussels.
