Bobby Previte
My quartet, "The New Bump," is just back from Europe, and sounding fine. The late night series at the Blue Note is not at all like going to a regular stupid jazz club: it's fairly chill, they don't hassle you, and it's only 8 dollars cover. Yes, that's right, 8 dollars. So, no excuses. Bill Ware on vibes, Ellery Eskeli...n on tenor sax, and Brad Jones on bass. Come down, have a drink, and see these studs play so I don't have to post another video like the Amniotic gig for all of you that miss it.Read More

Bobby Previte/Benton-C Bainbridge plus
Cameron Wisch/Eric Drasin
The Tank will present an evening of live music and video featuring two drummer/VJ duos.
"Dialed In" is an audiovisual performance by drummer/composer Bobby Previte and video artist Benton-C Bainbridge. Previte triggers samples from an electronic drum kit , ...making every sound live- no loops, no laptops, no overdubbing. Benton-C paints with light that spills off the screen and onto the performers. Bainbridge warps video into strange shapes like an Electric Company fever dream while Previte whips sonic fragments into powerful songs.
Cameron Wisch performs on an acoustic drum kit along with a laptop as Eric Drasin beams projections onto the audience and stage. A camera captures the movement of the audience and is analysed by a laptop to form a 'feedback loop' of light, echoing and enhancing the energy of the room.
This unusual pairing of Percussion and Pixels yields two very different shows. Previte and Bainbridge play a/v 'songs' about life, death, and video games. But they don't sing - the stories are told with pictures. Original shots and sampled clips are 'edited' live in tight sync with the music and projected above the stage. Bainbridge also plays two additional 'channels' of video which light the duo.
Eric Drasin also uses video projection for lighting, hitting Cameron Wisch and their audience with responsive abstract imagery. Wisch plays avant rock drums and sings on top of computer tracks, making the audience move to odd time signatures. Drasin captures the dancing with a video camera and feeds the signal into custom software to derive abstracted reactive visuals.
"Dialed In" performances have included Lincoln Center, EMPAC (Troy, NY), Eyebeam Art & Technology Center, and (on July 25, 2009) SUPERSONIC 09 Festival in Birmingham, UK. This evening's show will be the New York County premiere of the Wisch/Drasin duo.

Bobby Previte’s first stage appearance came in 1956 at the Niagara Falls Community Talent Show, where, dressed in an over-sized suit, and slinging a guitar, he belted out a solo rendition of Elvis’ hit, “Hound Dog.”
Figuring music was a great way to get girls, at thirteen he fashioned his first kit out of a rusted iron garbage can turned on its side (the bass drum), two pieces of linoleum crimped together, stuck through with a wire coat-hanger, wound into a spring and crowned with a rubber ball (the kick pedal), two upside-down rubber trash bins (the toms), a box with loose junk rattling around inside (the snare), and a tin pie plate (the cymbal) nailed to the top of a plunger (the stand), set them up in his basement, and practiced for months on end in the dark, lit only by a lone spotlight.
When the band he was in finally got a job, he was fired for not having ‘real’ drums. Vowing to go it alone, he got a paper route, bought his first set, a 1965 Rogers Holiday model in blue sparkle, fell in love with the sound, and never looked back.
Traveling the world, he has sat behind the drums in a prodigious array of places, from the Palace Burlesque in Buffalo, NY to Gloria’s Corral Club in the Kentucky backwoods to Carnegie Hall, South America, Europe, Russia, Japan, Australia, and back.
In 1968, while walking in the west village, he spotted Jimi Hendrix in a limo, unfurled the life sized poster of him he happened to have just purchased, and then looked on in astonishment as Jimi smiled, nodded, and flashed him the peace sign.
Bobby flashed Jimi back. All the rest is noise.
Eric Barry Drasin is a Dream Architect, media artist, and performer. He is currently finishing his degree for New Media at Purchase College.
Cameron Wisch is a drummer and composer currently attending SUNY Purchase for Classical Composition. In 2007-2008 Wisch toured in the US and UK with the indie rock group Ra Ra Riot and recorded on their newest release, The Rhumb Line, which received 4/5 stars from Rolling Stone. In the end of 2008 Wisch left Ra Ra RIot to attend Purchase, and has been composing music that combines elements of avant-garde rock and modern classical music. Along with composing, Wisch currently plays drums in the math rock trio Zona Mexicana, performs solo on drums, vocals and laptop, and collaborates with video artist Eric Drasin.
