The Festival of Lights is a time to gather together with members of the Gardner-Webb and surrounding communities to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ through music and scripture. After the concert, the community will walk to the center of campus for the official lighting of the campus Christmas tree. As the crowd ga...thers around the lit tree, additional scripture will be read along with the singing of several Christmas favorites. Following the lighting of the tree, luminaries will guide the way towards the O. Max Gardner music building where refreshments will be served.

Then you will not want to miss Gardner-Webb University’s annual Christmas Sale sponsored by the Department of Fine Arts- Visual Arts Division and the GWU Art Club. The art work of Gardner-Webb students, faculty, and alumni as well a...s local artists will be on display beginning Thursday, November 19 through Saturday, November 21 from 9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. in the Communications Studies Hall Gallery. This year’s Christmas Sale will showcase jewelry, pottery, paintings, fiber arts, handbags, scripture calligraphy, handcrafted musical instruments and more. Susan Carlisle Bell, Karen Dunham, Doug Knotts, Trudy Roth, Ruth Zehnder, and Gardner-Webb art students are among this year’s featured artisans. Listen to the sweet sounds of Christmas with live music performed by Joe Collins on the Dulcimer and David Parker on the acoustic guitar. Joe Collis is Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and David Parker serves as Associate Professor of English for Gardner-Webb. Christmas candies and baked goods will also be available for sale.

Homecoming Weekend 2009 will feature William Paul Young, author of the break-away best seller, The SHACK, who is coming to Gardner-Webb University on Saturday, October 31, 2009. You are invited to hear Mr. Young share his personal story behind the writing of The SHACK from 10:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. in the Lutz-Yelton C...onvocation Center on the campus of Gardner-Webb University.
If you can't attend the 10:00a.m. session, then join us for the Alumni Awards Banquet with William P. Young as keynote speaker. This event is open to all and will be held in Gardner-Webb's Lutz-Yelton Convocation Center from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. The cost is $25.00 per person.
