Huge cheers to all who take in the middle aged and senior dogs. I'm assuming from the grey eyebrows that Sabrina is no teenager, though, boy, her face looks full of life!

California GSP Rescue Please help CA GSP Rescue with Buddy Robert's Vet Bill. You can read more at the link below. We need to raise $910 to pay for the surgery to fix his broken leg. A small donation of $5 or $10 will help.

just asking for prayers for our beloved Lucy who is in emergency surgery. She was absolutely fine last night and cuddling on the couch with me as usual. When we got up this morning, she could barely walk and she was very cold. We rushed her to the vet and they did blood work and x-rays. Her spleen is extremely enla...rged and she is in shock. She is 10 and has been extremely active and healthy until now = we love her so much!!!Read More

BRODY UPDATE:

Let me tell you a little story about a dog called Brody. Brody is a beautiful Pointer, with heart as big as his chest (which is pretty damn big). Despite his full body wiggles, sloppy kisses and lovelorn eyes, he hasn't quite found that perfect family. So he thought he'd try the next best thing and hook up... with another family for a bit, although he's a little unsure of their life style. First of all, they have an odd looking grey dog with absolutely no liver or white markings to be seen. Despite her funny looks and her relatively calm behaviour (he suspects drugs may be involved, cos he can't fathom what else would make a healthy dog sit calmly at an open door without bursting through it, but can't say for sure and doesn't want to start any rumours), she's a happy girl and seems like an alright sort. She can get a bit stroppy though, when he's bouncing up and down in front of the people, trying to get their attention. She's even barked at him a few times, and nipped his ear when he jumped on the people. He thinks that perhaps she's trying to tell him something. He's not sure what yet, but thinks he'll probably understand soon. He just needs some time to figure things out. As for the people, they have made some questionable choices in their lives. First, they have tiles and wood flooring instead of grass and dirt. Seems a little stupid, he thinks, given the fact that he can barely walk on it without all four legs sliding in opposite directions. Secondly, they have all sorts of cool stuff that is apparently just there for show. Really - what on earth is the point of counters and tables and chairs if you can't jump on them and jump over them? Ridiculous, he thinks. Third, and most puzzling, is that they like to "hike". So they put him in the car with the little grey girl and drove for about an hour. When they got out, the sounds of the cars and city had gone, and it was much calmer and quieter, more what he was used to. So he happily trotted next to them (not that he had much choice, cos they put a leash on him) as they made their way up a trail with the grey dog and two of their friends. They grey dog was running up and down the trail like a chook without a head, seemingly enjoying life without a leash. The people seemed impressed by his behaviour cos they were giving him lots of pats and praise. They must have thought he wanted to join the grey dog, because they let him off the leash. Not bad, he thought, as he wandered around, sniffing and peeing on whatever he felt like. This seems like a pretty good gig. Another mile later though, things are getting a bit tedious. Really, he thought, what's the deal here? We walk, and for what? Where's the prize? Where's the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You know what? This is just silly. I'm taking my bat and ball and going home, he thought. And so he did. 1.5 miles back down the trail, back to the car, where he promptly lay down in the shade and waited for the rest of the idiots to join him. And they took their sweet old time to get to him, too. He heard them whistling and yelling (sounded like "brooodeeey" but he's not sure what that means). They must have been sick of hiking too, though, cos they seemed pretty damn happy to be back at the car and in his company again. They gave him all sorts of hugs. Thankfully, they saw the light after that, and headed back home for an afternoon on the couch in front the tv. Much more his style. He figures he'll be able to train them properly with a bit of work. Might take some time, but he has high hopes for this odd family and thinks they have lots of potential. (photo of Jason and Brody)Read More

Brody reminds me of my dog, Baxter. They look very similar (broad chest and all). Baxter is our most energetic even though he is our oldest GSP. He wiggles and "dances" when he is excited which is most of the time. Brody will make someone a very happy person. Baxter makes us laugh all the time. He is a silly clown. Someone who wants an energetic GSP should jump on this one!

California GSP Rescue Tania fosters Brody! Tania who is one of the regular volunteers and who has fostered in the past, took Brody home today to foster because Brody has been at the rescue too long! He always seems to get overlooked when adopters are looking at the candidates. Tania will be sending in updates on Brody in hopes of finding him a forever home!

Tania and Jason are AWESOME foster parents! Brody is a personal favorite and I am just so excited for the big goof ball! Being part of a family and having a daily routien will certainly help in training and make him more adoptable. Fostering does make a difference!!! Thank you Tania and Jason! Yay Brody!

Funny story from Carrie's adopters -

This weekend we were looking for a dry dog food container and warm cover up for Carrie (it's going to start getting cold here in the high desert, 35 degree mornings). We checked out a couple of pet stores and finally decided to go back to PetSmart where they had the container that w...e thought would be most suitable and some nice doggie apparel. Carrie just loves to go into PetSmart. She greets everybody and seems to like socializing with other dogs. Anyway, she notices the birds flying around the bird avery and casually walks Ray over to it, she can be discreet, when she wants. She was so entranced by the birds, she sniffed around the ground outside the cage, but never taking her eyes off the birds, and when she came up, she had a nose full of parakeet and cocktail feathers. Everybody standing around got a big kick out of it and we just laughed. She's such a bird dog, she just doesn't know it.Read More

I fair dinkum cracked up laughing at these photos... Somewhere ages ago we all talked about what our dogs have destroyed. I still think we should make a book of quotes and pictures to sell for profit..

California GSP Rescue Another Happy Ending! This is a great story about a GSP (with the exception of the two little side notes). Nothing like seeing a little girl with a dog she loves...

Source: www.msnbc.msn.com
Olar, S.C., is a quiet town whose fire department got only 60 calls last year — but when 4-year-old Olivia Hartzog’s German shorthaired pointer, Mollie, fell down a 33-foot-well, they sprang into action. “Mollie, you're OK!” Olivia cried as the dog came out without even a limp.

Yippee! Can't believe she's been there this long. Loved that video of the trio, btw. Chip (or is it Chase - the darker one) has THE coolest markings! Hope he's as fun as he is cool looking.
