Matthew

Matthew Dear Booko, Love your work. Found you a couple of days ago, bought almost $400 worth of stuff. Sincerely hope you're getting kickbacks from it.

Just wondering, in the case where there are multiple EAN/ISBN's for a book, is there an easy way to identify the differences between them?

It's not you - I've temporarily disabled them due to a concern they raised that Booko was not calculating the shipping correctly. Basically, they offer different shipping rates depending on where you are. I need to add a setting to Booko to let you set your location, so that the shipping calculation is accurate.

Sharp eyes!

Booko Bad news for Australian book stores. Pathetic decision by Rudd & Co, ignoring the evidence based opinion of the Productivity Commission. This is exactly why I built Booko. Long live the Internet.

Hi Michael - sorry for the delay answering! Do you mean, a synopsis of the Book being viewed on the Booko website? Interesting idea - the difficulty may be in sourcing the text, but I haven't really considered it properly.

Ian
This is such a brilliant site - thank you! Have already purchased a number of books through your site on the basis of the information you supply.

Question though. Could you double check the results for this please?

The US website price listed is higher than the UK website... price, but the Australian price shows up as lower from the US website than the UK one. This seems unlikely, unless it's some sort of trick with the exchange rate?

Hope my question makes sense.

Thanks for your time!

Hi Ian - great question. In fact, looks like the price grabber for the US site is not working properly, so I'm disabling it for the time being. Thanks for letting me know.

The difficulty is that the BookDepository (BD) sites uses a clever system to figure out what part of the world you're from, then they displays an appropriate currency. Here in... Read More Aus, we get GBP, but Booko, being hosted in the US, gets USD. The first problem this created was that BD.co.uk had its prices converted from GBP->AUD, and the BD.com site had its prices converted from USD->AUD. These conversions can get a bit hinky, because if you visit the both the BD sites, you'll see the price in GBP - and sometimes Booko displayed one as cheaper than the other, when the opposite was true. The difference is only in pence, but still.

Now the problem you've pointed out makes me think Booko is back to getting GBP, but still doing a USD->AUD conversion. I'll have to take a closer look when I get home from my day job ;-)

Haha yeah - I have a day job. Booko started out as just a site for me to use. It's slowly grown ever since I put it on the web. It is taking up more and more of my time though ;-)

Booko Hey everyone - Booko now includes BookDepository's US site (bookdepository.com) as well as the UK version (bookdepository.co.uk). Enjoy!

Arran Haydon-Clark

Arran Haydon-Clark This site is so great! It would be great to have an m version of the site so prices could be checked on a mobile phone browser...like while you're in a shop. Then I'd know that I can buy the book now for $45 or buy it online for $25 and get it a week later.
