About Boone, North Carolina:
Appalachian State University is located in Boone, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The mountain region offers many attractions, including sports, visual and performing arts, and outdoor activities both on and off campus. Snowy winters and cool summers draw visitors from all over the southeast, allowing the small town of Boone to offer many amenities usually found in much larger communities.

The University is home to more than 13000 undergraduates and 2000 graduate students enrolled in programs in five colleges and schools. Half of the graduate students work full time and pursue their studies at off-campus sites in the nine surrounding counties.

Students have access to information resources through the Belk Library and Information Commons and through top-speed connections to the internet via the North Carolina Information Highway.

Qualified full time graduate students have access to financial assistance through government loans, North Carolina tuition scholarships, and graduate assistantships, as well as awards available through individual programs.

Limited numbers of spaces in on-campus housing are available to graduate students on a first-come-first-served basis. Most students who attend in Boone live off but near campus. The Appalcart, a free bus service, is available for transportation around the campus and town of Boone.

Graduate Certificate Programs:
Off-Campus Programs:
Most of the programs offered off-campus accept applications for face-to-face instruction at sites in western North Carolina, including Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Forsyth, McDowell, Rutherford, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties. These programs are supplemented by web-based classroom environments.

Students in these programs attend classes together as a cohort and are enrolled part time in one or two classes each term year round. Cohorts only start at locations for which there is sufficient interst to guarantee enough enrollment, so indicating interest and applying early is important.

Check the Office of Extension and Distance Education website for the most current list of programs actively accepting applications in your area. http://www.ext-dl.appstate.edu
