UU World : The Unitarian Universalist Association has elected the Rev. Peter Morales as its next president. The final vote was 2,061 for Morales to 1,481 for the Rev. Dr. Laurel Hallman.

I would have been happy with either, but I cast my absentee delegate ballot (since I couldn't go to GA this year) for Morales. I think he'll do a great job and continue to give the UUA a prominent public face.

UU World : The General Assembly has narrowly rejected the Commission on Appraisal's proposal to amend Article II of the UUA Bylaws (the "Principles and Purposes").

By a very close vote, the motion to amend Article II of the UUA Bylaws has failed. The final vote was 573 for and 586 against.

I have to agree with some of the comments I've seen from the debate (I'm not at GA this year). The Principles revisions I wouldnt complain about, but the Purposes section was changed from a religious text to a policy document.
Herb
Herb
I'm a bit disappointed. I kinda like the rewording of the principles, and I did like the change in the sources from list to paragraph. But, it's resolved now, and we stick with the same principles and sources we been using for years. Might be worth revisiting a number of years (less than 15!) in the future.

Caroline Tandy Quintanilla

Caroline Tandy Quintanilla Please mention Camp de Benneville Pines' Artist in Residence, Laura Janes----her painting "Blue Agave" is this issue's Creations on page 21.

I remember this painting hanging on the fence behind Laura's cabin at camp. At the time, I enjoyed the irony of the cactus surrounded by the oaks and pines of our mountains.

This summer, Laura will be offering her 3rd Art Camp at de Benneville---a 6-day intensive for artists of all levels. Art Camp is a wonderful gathering for UU artists and has enriched the de Benneville community.

In the 7 years that Laura has been living at camp, she has improved the visual look of our cabins and meeting spaces, adding so much to the camp's ambiance. We appreciate her so much!

I do apologize for posting bad info. Either the TV reporter/anchor confused the movie squabble with the Beacon Press deal, or my wife & I both did so. You guys at UU world and the folks at Beacon Press would certainly know if there was a problem. Thanks for correcting me--and clarifying this matter. As a long-time and faithful UU, I am excited about the Beacon Press-King partnership!
UU World
UU World
Herb, it's certainly possible that there was internal disagreement among the King siblings about the Beacon Press deal. I do not yet know how involved all of them were in the agreement with Beacon Press.
