Oh my, clear skies...let's all hope for them together for this holiday weekend shall we? And if you’re trying to find fireworks near you, Sheri passed along a handy link from Boston Central that features a date/town ordered list of Massachusetts fireworks displays...

In May I signed on as a March of Dimes mom, through which I will donate one post per month to pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, newborn, or general family topics. In honor of Father’s Day, June’s suggested topic was – not surprisingly – dad issues...

Jennifer at 6:18pm July 2
Sweetie, this is absolutely lovely...really...

Boston Mamas at 7:35pm July 2
Thanks lady... it really captures him, the absurdity, and the good throughout I think. :-)

Boston Mamas Here's my interview with FOX25 re: marketing to mom bloggers http://tinyurl.com/mvkw9s The immaculateness of my kitchen was short lived. :-)
Source: tinyurl.com
Moms want the best for our children. They search every product, making sure it is the best for the little ones. For help on some of that advice, many mothers are turning into bloggers, helping other parents through advice and personal experiences shared on the web. ...
Boston Mamas at 10:48am July 2
Yeah, I do have freakish focus when I'm on my laptop -- though at that point I actually was goofing off on Twitter if you can believe it! :-)
Ellie at 3:59pm July 2
great job!
Boston Mamas at 7:34pm July 2
Thanks all! It was super fun to film. :-)

Mary Jane Skidds
I'm happy to see you on TV, and looks great!! Thank you for being online Christine!
MJ
Boston Mamas at 7:45am July 2
Thanks for your kind comment MJ! I was on a late flight back to Boston last night so just had a chance to see the segment this AM with my daughter online. She loved seeing her picture float by and her bookcase of craft supplies. :-) It was an honor to be featured.

Although Laurel’s daycare runs year round, the summer tends to be a time for transition, and the recent departure of one of her friends reminded me of something I loved doing as a child: exchanging letters with pen pals...

Sheri at 10:29am July 1
There is also epals where you can get pen pals around the world to broaden the global awareness in kids. Maybe I should write an article about that....
Talita at 11:39am July 1
At some point in my life I had over 150 pen pals from all over the world. I used to spend my monthly salary on postage, and I used to write letters in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
I really missed that time. I would get 2-3 letters a day. It was so much fun!

Boston Mamas at 7:44am July 2
Wow, Talita - that's impressive! I just had a few pen pals as a kid, but oh did I love getting mail and connecting with kids around the world.

Boston Mamas Hello friends, my interview on FOX25 Boston (marketing to mom bloggers) airs tonight in the 10pm newscast if you'd like to check it out. :-)

Today, Heather shares ideas for ways to work in one on one time with siblings: “With four children, ages 2-5, giving each of my children the individual attention they want is truly one of my greatest challenges...
Kirsten at 10:53am July 1

Aaron at 5:40pm June 30
Why would I want everyone to see me on TV letting my kids wrap their cigars in bacon?

Today, Kate shares a book recommendation for grownups: “I have long been fascinated by marriages. What keeps two people together over many years? What really goes on during all of those dinners together, those long car rides, those epic changes and everyday activities...

This past weekend I took a walk down craft memory lane when my mother-in-law brought a Klutz potholder making kit for Laurel. To be perfectly frank, it’s not the most chic craft, but boy does Laurel love it...

Crafts and toys typically occupy separate real estate in stores and playrooms, but CALAFANT cleverly has figured out how to merge the two, offering kids a wonderful vehicle for creativity and play, and parents more bang for their buck...

It’s hard to believe we’re coming up on July 4th weekend and starting tomorrow locals and visitors alike may enjoy a celebratory windup to the holiday weekend via Boston Harborfest. Taking place at and around City Hall Plaza, the festivities run June 30 – July 5...

Few things spell summer like the welcome return of water play, and today (2 - 3:30pm) the Boston Common Frog Pond will host a Frog Pond Wading Pool opening celebration, replete with activities, snacks, and of course, a lot of water. The pool is open June through Labor Day, 11am – 6p

Last weekend on the Cape I was reminded that a little rain doesn’t stop enthusiastic kids (i.e., grownups were huddled under umbrellas while the kids happily swam in the pool). Hopefully, these outdoor weekend picks will prevail over the weather...

Today, parent educator Hetti Wohlgemuth shares tips for coping with public tantrums: “Small children tantrum; sometimes in a big way. And sometimes in a public place. We manage tantrums just fine at home, but less well on the playground, or at the public library, market, or mall. Why...

For all of you perfectly imperfect parents (um, that's all of us right??): I'm quoted in the Boston Globe today re: imperfect parenting confessions http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/family/a rticles/2009/06/25/confessions_of_an_imp erfect_parent/ Enjoy!
Source: www.boston.com
Bad parenting confessionals are all the rage these days - a trend that started in the blogosphere with the likes of TrueMomConfessions.com - and have now been overtaken by the publishing industry, which this spring produced a flurry of imperfect-parent memoirs. ...
Paige at 7:46pm June 25
Great piece, C! Totally weird to have a BFF and one of my Harvard colleagues quoted in the same article...
Boston Mamas at 7:20am June 26
I'd say that was weird, but in this city apparently not! :-)

My bargain savvy sister-in-law sent me two leads that are handy for families looking for budget entertainment now that school is out (and the rain doesn’t seem interested in letting up for long)...
Amy at 11:00am June 25
Not quite free, but PiNZ Bowling in Milford is offering $1 games this summer and will give money back to your school's PTA/PTO. Download a coupon at http://www.hptaonline.com/ familyfun.html
Boston Mamas at 11:05am June 25
Lovely, thanks for sharing the tip Amy!

In response to an invitation to submit an idea for an episode of The Juice, last week I wrote about a topic I care deeply about: nurturing relationships and the value of doing good things for people...

Today, Kate shares her favorite means for fitness: “I turned 35 this year, which - combined with other major changes in my life - prodded me into thinking that I should be doing more to keep myself healthy and active...
Yokaira at 3:53am June 24
I am doing that since Xmas... I started walking and i wanted to run, but as you said after a couple of blocks i felt like i was dying, so at this point instead of running i am jogging. I feel great everytime i do it.. But guess what??? I broke a toe, so no walking for a couple of weeks.. And is killing me. So afraid to be in a couch eating the kitchen.
Boston Mamas at 5:59am June 24
Sorry to hear about the toe! I'd recommend to keep gently stretching (e.g., on the floor while you're watching TV or whenever!) to prevent you from getting too stiff, plus it'll occupy you away from mindless snacking. :-)

You know you’re either terribly predictable or somewhat loved when folks write in asking if you’re trapped under something really heavy on a day (yesterday) with no posts or tweets (thanks, folks!)...

Rachel Miller looking for some kind of mommy and me class for me and my 8 month old in Brookline or surrounding area - anyone know of anything???
Boston Mamas at 1:48pm June 23
Have you checked Isis Brookline's (or the new Prudential location, depending on where you area...) listings Rachel? They're very active with programming.
Boston Mamas at 7:20am June 26
I'd also recommend checking your local library for sing alongs and story times. I heart the public libraries.

Maggie Astolfi Just made quite possibly the easiest cookies - and SO delicious. I thought of you because they're a great recipe to do with kids (no oven/electric mixer involved). Spider Cookies: 1 bag of chocolate chips, 1 bag of butterscotch chips and 1 regular container of Chow Mein noodles (add 2 cups of unsalted peanuts for added texture and crunch). Melt chocolate chips and butterscotch chips in the microwave until well blended, stir in the Chow Mein noodles (and peanuts). Drop heaping spoon fulls on wax paper and let chill. Eat and enjoy! I have made them for Easter and shaped them into small bird's nests...once they chill add the Cadbury mini pastel eggs to the scooped out part of the "nest" and you're good to go!
