From Troop 209, Verdugo Hills Council, Iron Eyes Cody District.
Got back from the East Fork of the San Gabriel River, CA. about 3:30PM 11/22/09.
I left friday morning with my son Ethan. We pulled Troop 209's trailer up to Heaton Flats, unloaded and setup camp. Tom Walsh, the USFS coordinator our Troop was working with, t...ook Ethan and I on a small guided tour of the original settler's ruins there. I slept out under the stars the last two nights. It was below freezing with the wind chill factor friday and saturday night. My sleeping bag is rated at 0' and I had my thermarest pad and a good ground sheet. I was snug. I felt like the scouts and other adult leaders couldn't believe I slept out under the stars. You'd think a tent had room service. Anyway, the troop dismantled 7 or 8 dams and removed 350 pounds of trash from about a 1.5 mile stretch of river. Had a great Synchronicity moment on Saturday when I ran into my friend JonTom while watching over camp. He was up with some of his Webelos on a hike to the Bridge to Nowhere. It was great to see him. He got to meet my son Ethan and see how big he's gotten. His boys are huge. Ethan and I beat the troop back home after driving through In n Out. While we waited for the troop we utilized our time by unloading the trailer and some of the troop's personal gear from my truck.Read More

Gina Lewis Etter Anyone attending the Jamboree in July?

Darrin The Bob Mancusp memeoial was really nice. The frog legs were the hit of the camporee. Kids lined up to try them. We went through five pounds and were even cutting them in half!! We ran out in the first 45 minutes of walk about. Bob was right and even though he is gone, he is still touching the lives of boys.

Marlin Brown I WAS A SCOUT AS A YOUTH. I'VE BEEN A SCOUTER SINCE THE MID EIGHTIES. IT IS A GREAT ORG. FOR YOUTH, WHEN ADULTS GIVE IT A CHANCE.

Greetings! I earned my Eagle Scout in 1999. I now do education and outreach for a non-profit in Colorado called the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative. If your troop or post is planning a trip to climb one of Colorado's fourteen thousand foot peaks, please email me at brian@14ers.org. I would like to discuss the opportuni...ty to meet with your group before you climb to talk about specific environmental issues on the Fourteeners and ways that large groups can mitigate their ecological impact. Become a fan to learn more about us: (http://www.facebook.com/#/pages/Colorado -Fourteeners-Initiative/127711951957?ref =mf) Thanks and looking forward to hearing from some of you!Read More
