The Town & Gown Players and Boybutante AIDS Foundation, Inc. present a double feature of live alternative entertainment to kick off the Halloween holiday season: the stage adaptation of internet sensation DR. HORRIBLE’S SING-A-LONG BLOG and the revival of Charles Busch’s off-Broadway legend VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM!
VA...MPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM, in the time-honored tradition of sleazy cabarets, racy burlesque routines, and the Rocky Horror Picture Show, is a gender-bending, blood-curdling, side-splitting camp extravaganza. The show follows a pair of sapphic succubi (played by men, of course – what else do you expect from a drag legend like Charles Busch?) through the centuries, from ancient Sodom to glamorous 1920s Hollywood to gaudy modern-day Vegas, as they wage a private war against one another. As their epic vendetta unfolds, we meet a wild assortment of oddball characters including macho Sodomite soldiers, matinee idols with more than just skeletons in their closets, backstabbing chorus boys, and <gasp> young Republicans! Not for the weak of heart, and certainly not appropriate for children.
Originally conceived by the talents behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, DR. HORRIBLE’S SING-A-LONG BLOG follows the musical misadventures of Billy (a.k.a. Dr. Horrible), a mad scientist torn between his goal of total world domination and his desire to win the heart of Penny, the girl at the laundromat that he’s never even spoken to. Standing in the way of both: Captain Hammer, Billy’s nemesis, a blowhard superhero who has set his sights on Penny as well! Just how far will Billy go to win the girl, or rule the world? Can he have everything he ever wanted? The stage adaptation unfolds to the same crowd-pleasing catchy tunes and witty dialogue that garnered the internet series an Emmy nomination, but also features some welcome surprises when the show is brought to life on the stage!
