Bridgette Raes, Style Expert Brown and Black, when worn together, used to be such an odd combination. Now it is looking like a fresh and right combo, isn't it?

Personally I love a camel and a black. I think it warms up the black!!! I'm still getting used to the brown and black and, I have to say, it is growing on me.

KARACHI, Pakistan — Some women strode the catwalk in vicious spiked bracelets and body armor. Others had their heads covered, burqa-style, but with shoulders — and tattoos — exposed. Male models wore long, Islamic robes as well as shorts and sequined T-shirts.

Bridgette Raes, Style Expert Thanks to the recession, we may be able to afford jeans again.

The sky used to be the limit for the price of designer jeans. Now the sky is falling. The $300 pair of designer jeans is now, courtesy of the recession, the $200 pair of designer jeans.

Bridgette Raes, Style Expert I, like the writer of this article, have never been a big fan of Ann Taylor. However, it seems like the "cubicle-wear chic" (as it is referred to in this article) of yesterday has gotten an update.

Source: www.nytimes.com
Ann Taylor has adjusted to the dismal economic climate with an unthinkably radical new corporate model: reasonable prices for quality merchandise.

Bridgette Raes, Style Expert The first thing I thought when I saw the use of mannequins in Old Navy's advertisements and commercials was that it was a creative way to deal with the recession. I'm quite certain Morgan Fairchild and Magic the dog cost a lot more money than "Supermodelquins" do. In these times, it's all about creative problem solving.

Old Navy has always played the kitchy card when it comes to advertising and this season is no exception. page 1

Bridgette Raes, Style Expert Some think the economic crisis has taken the emotion has been taken out of fashion...practical Sportswear is back. While some may see this emotionless fashion as a bad thing, for once, it seems like fashion is listening closely to the needs of the everyday woman. Not to mention, sportswear is also sensible because it is mix & match. What are your thoughts?

Source: www.nytimes.com
This season, designers showed a need for clothes that actually have clear design values.

I am happy about the sportswear aspect, and not just because I am a former sportswear designer. I like sportswear because you can do a lot with it. Dresses are great but you can't do as much with them. Realistically, sportswear does offer more mileage in a hurting economy. And sportswear doesn't have to be boring. It's unfortunate that designers are afraid to take risks. That's the part I don't like to hear. Fear so often causes creativity paralysis.
