MAINSTAGE SEASON:

OUR 2009-2010 MAINSTAGE SEASON!

Nov. 3 - Nov. 22:

I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change

Book and Lyrics by Joe DiPietro, Music by Jimmy Roberts

The trials and tribulations of being single, dating, marriage, loss and heartbreake are cleverly explored in this musical.  I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change addresses everything in the relationship process that you have ever secretly thought about.  Some of the satires include what it means to be a part of the crazed, hopeless singles scene; cold feet and the pre-wedding realization; the in-laws, 30 years of marriage...basically everything that you're afraid to admit.

"A great date show.  A perfect mating dance.  It's Seinfeld set to music." -THE STAR LEDGER

Jan. 26 - Feb. 14:

THE FOREIGNER

Comedy by Larry Shue

Winner of two Obie Awards, Best American Play and Best Off-Broadway Production, The Foreigner is an uproariously inspired comedy that celebrates our curiousity and empathy for "the outsider."  Englishman Charlie Baker, self-proclaimed "world's dullest man," takes a vacation as a riral fishing lodge with his eccentric army buddy, Froggy LeSuer.  Froggy concocts an outrageous scheme to save Charlie from his shy self by introducing him as an exotic "foreigner" who can't speak English.  Soon Charlie's guileless persona backfires and the lodge guests share their deepest secret and most sinister plans.  What ensues is a series of hilarious and heartwarming revelations, which lead to the ultimate good-guy vs. bad-guy climax!

"A romantic comedy with enough warmth and truth in it that it is not only funny, but also often moving." - THE NY TIMES

March 16 - April 4:

UP!

By Bridget Carpenter

How high can our dreams take us? Walter Griffin was a man literally above all others for one magical moment in his life. Ever since, he has tried to recapture that instant of defying gravity. Now his life and family are beginning to crumble around him following the loss of his job. But Walter doesn’t want his job or any job. He wants to invent, create, to do something great. As his son goes through teenage growing pains and his wife struggles to hold the family together, can Walter do the impossible?

The first BRT Mainstage production to emerge from our America Rising series.

A Philadelphia area premiere.

May 4 - May 23:

Closer Than Ever

Music by David Shire, Lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr.

In this brilliant companion to their hit revue Starting Here, Starting Now,

Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire follow up their earlier "songs of innocence" with twenty-four funny, wise and witty "songs of experience."  As with their earlier revue, each song in Closer Than Ever is a story: an intimate, insightful tale about love, security and happiness - and holding onto them in a world that pulls you in a hundred different directions at once.  Maltby and Shire bring their celebrated craft and contemporary senseibility to songs about again, mid-life crisis, second marriages, and role reversal with parents, as well as wicked satirical jabs at Muzak, working couples and unrequited love.  Winner of the 1989 Outer Critics Circle Award.

"As collaborators, Maltby and Shire have a rarified gift for melodic, inventive, penetrating theater music." -LA TIMES

Bristol Riverside Theatre's Winter Musicale cast and band wax poetic (not really, but I've always wanted to write that). It's the first week of performances, what a great group. Hope to see all of you next week. Eight performers and five band members, lots of stories to hear.
