That's definitely one possibility, Jack, which is why I posted this; that someone after this segment airs will post something on the "60 Minutes" Website drawing the comparison to funeral-related expenses.

In addition, I know many FDs who are asked end-of-life questions involving loved ones, such as estate planning stuff, legal and insurance things, etc. The role of FDs in many ways has grown beyond disposition and interment to encompass a broader "continuum of care," if you will. Thoughts? cjr

National Funeral Directors Association I know stories like this aren't unique to Wisconsin, but, perhaps, it's wise for funeral directors to remind families about making sure their homes are secure when they leave for the visitation or funeral service. ~Jessica Koth, NFDA

The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) is offering an early bird registration discount to member funeral homes planning to participate in the 2009-10 Pursuit of Excellence® program. Firms that register by January 15, 2010, will save nearly 10% on the participation fee.

The funeral profession's premier recogn...ition program, Pursuit of Excellence honors NFDA-member funeral homes for their outstanding service to families and communities, and adherence to the highest ethical and professional standards. To achieve NFDA's Pursuit of Excellence Award, participants must demonstrate their commitment to: Complying with state and federal regulations; providing ongoing education and professional development opportunities for staff; offering exceptional programs and resources to bereaved families; maintaining an active level of involvement within the community; participating and actively serving in the funeral service profession; and promoting funeral home services through a variety of marketing, advertising and public relations programs.

Because the needs of families are evolving, funeral homes that participate in NFDA's 2009-10 Pursuit of Excellence program will have an opportunity to fulfill new criteria that address the latest trends and issues significant to those they serve, including online memorialization and green funeral/natural burial options. NFDA has also developed a new, user-friendly online application option that will allow participants to conveniently fill out and submit their entire entry online.

To take advantage of NFDA's Pursuit of Excellence early bird registration price of $250 (regular price, $275), and to access 2009-10 Pursuit of Excellence program materials, visit http://www.nfda.org/pursuitofexcellence . Entry materials for all registrants, including documentation and criteria fulfillment, are due to NFDA by July 15, 2010.

Here I am 10 years later still wishing I had. It's time to do what I need to do or forget about it once and for all... so I'm wondering if you know of a good place to start...
