SHADE GARDENERS!
Impatiens no more! Try your funky thumb at growing shade loving mushrooms, beautiful and tasty; oysters, shiitake, wine caps and portobellos . . .
Barbara Pleasant at Mother Earth News explains: You'll need a hunk of dense hardwood, 4 to 6 inches in diameter, cut in late winter or spring when the wood is... rich with natural sugars, and with the bark left intact. Make 1-inch-deep holes 5 to 6 inches apart. Into these holes insert plugs of spawn and cap with melted wax. Once inoculated, stack the logs in a shady place. Water heavily twice a week .

RECYCLED RUBBER MULCH
It is Spring clean-up time. It got me thinking about mulch, believe it or not. My personal favorite is cocoa shell mulch for its deep, rich espresso brown.
In my google search, I came across rubber mulch. It is a new product, to me, but naturally, I love that its recycled.

The grass is always greener . . .
But what about the fence?!
LACE FENCE
_
Fencing is a sign of how we modified and cultivated our environment. Like brambles, fences are rising rampantly around us.
What would happen if a patch of embroided wire would meet with
and continue as an industrial fence. Hostility versus kindness,
i...ndustrial versus craft.

GREEN GRAFFITI by Artist Edina Tokodi
Eco-minded street artist Edina Tokodi is putting a new spin on green guerilla tactics in the trendy art enclave of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Tokodi’s site-specific moss installations of prancing animal figures and camouflage outgrowths are the talk of a local urban neighborhood typica...lly accustomed to gallery hype and commercial real estate take-overs. Unlike the market-driven art featured in sterile, white box galleries, the work of Tokodi is meant to be touched, felt, and in turn touch you in the playful ways that her animated installations call to mind a more familiar, environmentally friendly state in the barren patches of urban existence.
