Brother Ali The way that some of y'all have responded to my MJ posts has really fucked with me. There's not enough space here to describe it. Just reminds me that I make my music for myself. I try to put my entire heart into it and I do believe it's connected some of us in certain ways. Just know that music is the language of everything I treasure in life. If you don't see it that way, maybe you should look elsewhere.

Tony Rohs Ok Ali, lay your cards on the table....alltime favorite MJ video? What is it?

Jennifer Charlotte Saul just for the record i wasnt being negative in my comment, but i guess i can understand why it was deleted
Brother Ali at 2:29pm July 9
Your comment wasn't negative (really) but I deleted dude's comment (which was really evil) and I didn't want your response to trigger him saying more garbage. Let's remember that Michael was ACQUITTED of those charges. A jury found him INNOCENT and I'm not going to let my page be a place to spread that garbage.

Jolene at 3:06pm July 9
Well said.

Jeff Piłacinski It's dope that you're performing at the One Day in July street festival on July 25th in Minneapolis - really appreciate your commitment to this event and the important local history it represents. Peace and solidarity Brother.

A To Tha Zeem aslaam brother ali, get some dates up man i need to span my economical situation out, remember i live in the UK, any chance u trying to hit up the north of the UK???

Jake Syreini dude... do another show at Northland College in Ashland, WI... i missed the last one!

Brother Ali ?estlove of the Roots (huge hero of mine and extremely important poineer in modern Hip Hop/Soul music) just posted a really fresh tribute to Michael. I'm sure some of yall are tired of reading this from me but it's important to me even you're not able to appreciate MJ, that his impact on the music you DO like is understood. Does that make sense?

Brother Ali Just got off the phone with my manager (JayBird) and booking agent. The fall tour is coming together really nicely. It's looking like we're going to do a few shows in Europe the week before the album comes out and then start in the states the day of the release. We'll do around 50 shows in the US with a few in Canada. I'm hype. I haven't headlined a tour in over a year and ready to get it in.

Adam Charest Just recently discovered the greatness that is Brother Ali, I gotta say, fuck am I glad i did...Your shit is amazing! along with Atmosphere and the rest of the Rhymesayers!

Sonia
I'm a new fan, love love love!
There's a San Francisco band called Albino! and they're hot too. One of my best friends is an albino, a petite latina lesbian diva. Bless the freaks, my people.
Love to you Brother Ali, I appreciate your truths.
Blessings!
Brother Ali at 11:54am July 9
HAHA That's the shit. "Preciate cha!

Josh You've been my favorite artist for years now Ali. I've lived in Uptown for the last five years and I love seeing you perform, but now I'm off to Hawaii for grad school. I know Atmosphere did a show in Hawaii a couple years back. Any chance of getting you out there sometime and bringing some real hip hop to the island?
Brother Ali at 1:33am July 9
Hey Josh. I'm trying to get out there next winter. Hope to see you out there.

Dave Stearman Yo man, just wondering when the dates for your fall tour are gonna be released. Did you end up booking one in Toronto? Lemme know borther. Much thanks and peace
Brother Ali at 10:16pm July 8
They're still being finalized. I'd imagine we'll be making the announcement in a week or so. Want to wait until everything's confirmed.

Nic Holzhauer

Brother Ali Another week of Hip Hop History starts right here on Monday.
Kyle at 6:16pm July 8
agree w Spec.....would like to see you in Duluth Mn again ..... new proud father and can't afford the drive to the Twin cities . great music .....first CD is still the best .
Brother Ali at 11:56am July 9
Yep. Another week of videos. Just getting it all together. There's so much to share A lot of yall are already up on game but there's a lot of newer folks who didn't grow up on Hip Hop and I want to contextualize what we're trying to do.

Erik Carlson
hey, so i know this has probably been asked a million times before... but what made you decide to change the album name to "Us"?
i remember back in january/february.. or whatever month it was that you had your The Truth is Here EP release performance at fifth element and you seemed pretty set on Street Preacher with the whole concept of that and explained it well, so what's the inspiration for the new name?
Brother Ali at 10:08pm July 8
Oh yeah. We'll be in Duluth this fall. That shit's too crazy to pass up.
Erik at 10:15pm July 8
haha awesomee. thats good to hear because i hear there's a lot of UMD people that like their hip hop. oh and thanks for taking time out to respond and such. its really cool that you keep up with all us fans and our random questions.

Brutha Daniel David salaam akhi. I am anticipating this album like mad, i think the joell ortiz track will be classic inshallah.any idea when we will hear the first single and that. any chance that you will tour the UK to promote the album. also i have to ask, what are your views on Lupe Fiasco?
Brother Ali at 10:12pm July 8
Salaam Akhi. I hope you dig the joint with Joell. Freeway's on that song as well. We'll most definitely hit up the UK insha Allah. Might do it a few days before the album drops. I want to come out there a lot more going forward.
Brother Ali at 10:13pm July 8
As for Lupe, I respect and appreciate the brother. He's a good dude and makes quality music. I don't know him as of yet but we have a lot of mutual friends. I support him and wish him the best.

Nicholas Kelly when are you gonna come to Providence? They need to be put on to REAL hip hop
Brother Ali at 8:27am July 8
There's a lot of real hip hop in Providence. Yall have a shining star in Sage Francis. He's blazed a lot of trails and opened a lot of doors. Watch for B.Dolan as well. I'll be through RI this fall though.
Nicholas at 8:47am July 8
cool, and i know sage is a beast, i see him when he comes back to prov. but im tellin you the commerical garbage is way too popular here. thank god for the the mid america rappers who are staying true to the game. i saw you at rock the bells and let me tell you that "paid dues" stage was worth the admission.

Vikram M. Pursnani I've been listening to your music for a very long time and I find that the older I get and more mature I become, the more I take away from your music and the more I understand it. I was listening to Shadows On the Sun today and one song that really stood out to me was Picket Fence. Your use of the picket fence as symbolism is something that is relatively unseen and unheard in rap music. The way you articulate the conversation you had with the old woman is something that only the upper echelon of rappers can do. I wanted to know if that conversation you had with the old woman in the playground actually occurred or were you just taking some creative liberties in that song. Is it also true that your mother had the police kick you out of the house a week before Faheem was born?
Brother Ali at 11:04pm July 6
Thanks for reaching out man. It really means a lot to me when people are able to see what I was seeing when I wrote these songs. Yes all those things are true.

Osman Salaam Ali! i seen Joell Ortiz yesterday at Rock The Bells Toronto and I asked about that feature he is doing with you. He told me you reached out and is looking forward to it. Can't Wait my man!
Brother Ali at 6:38am July 8
Wa alaikum as salaam! Joell Is one of my favorite MC's right now. Has been for a while. It's ill cause he actually reached out to me to do an acapella on his album when he was on Aftermath. He ended up asking to be released from that label but he just kept pumping out these incredible songs. I've followed him ever since then (for a few years). Asked him to be on my new album and he sent his verse right over. Really good dude and amazing MC. I'm proud to know him.

Allison salaam alaiykum! come to washington dc! we love you!

Brother Ali Now that my new album "Us" is done, I'm knockin' out these guest appearances. Today I go in and record a new song with Scarface, one with Slug and one with Phonte and Grouch. All for BK's new album. My pen-hand is is feelin' real tough right now.

Brother Ali In case y'all missed this program. Here's an episode of "Comin' At Ya Live" hosted by golden era legendary MC (and brother of mine), YZ. We shot this at 2 different times back in 07 but it's one of my favorite interviews that I've ever done.
Source: therealyz.wordpress.com
Comin’ At Ya Live is a show created by YZ that showcases artists and DJ’s from all over the World. We are currently editing tons of goodies for you but didn’t want to leave you without a taste of what’s to come.
Timothy at 11:29am July 6
Brother Ali deserves way more credit than he is getting now. He's better than the mainstream "rappers" that are on the radio! :)
Leif at 12:59pm July 6
Aint that the truth! I actually saw his video 'Good Lord' on MTV today and it kinda made me sick to see him on mainstream, but I was also happy so that others can hear and appreciate his words.

MarkThe Posp You should totally start doing at least 2 shows a year in Des Moines...saw you last time at the Vaudeville Mews and last night as well, great job!

Michael O'Keefe Hey Ali, I was wondering were you come down on homosexuality. I know that you stress that everyone at the end of the day is the same, but then again on the Champion remix you said "you need to get the dick out of your intake, your a toilet a in gay bar never getting your shit straight." So I feel like I'm getting kind of a mixed message from you on this subject. And as much as I love Doom, that new joint Batty Boyz, produced by your friend Jake One, was incredibly homophobic "even the rats know its tacky 'if I ever look like that, slap me!'" So whats the deal Ali? I thought you cats were open minded!
Brother Ali at 8:24pm July 5
Artists are people and we grow. You're quoting a song I wrote in 2002. That was a play on words that I wouldn't make now. I actually have a song on my new album that addresses homophobia. I can't comment on what Doom said. You'd have to ask him about that. Jake made the beat but he doesn't have anything to do with what cats say on the records. ... Read MoreThere's a lot of different issues you're bringing up here. If you have a question, you should just ask it instead of trying to have a gotcha moment on Facebook.
Brother Ali at 9:40am July 6
No worries. I like that folks feel free to say and ask whatever you want. It's a beautiful thing. We can work through most conflicts by openness and being willing to put it on the table and hash it out. Do you feel like your question was answered?

Brother Ali Great weekend in Des Moines. I brought DJ Snuggles (BK had the weekend of for some much needed time with family). Also brought my family. Hung out with one of my heros and had a really great show at the 80/35 festival. I have to admit I was really sleepin' on Des Moines. Our past shows there were so light that I didn't think the support was there. Might got to add it to the next tour.

Keith Pearson Philistine David is one of my favorite songs. cant wait for the new album. Do you have like a fan mail email account? i'd like to send you a beat just to get some feedback on.
