Brother Dash was born Dasham K. Brookins in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City, New York. As a child Dash always had a knack for the English language and learned to read at an early age. Dash wrote his first poem at the age of 8 after the death of a childhood friend from a congenital heart condition. In his teenage years Dash wrote a few more poems and "raps" but it was not until college that he began to write more prolifically.

Today Brother Dash is quickly rising to become one of the most well known Muslim poets in the world having performed on both sides of the Atlantic several times and being seen by almost 4 million Muslim households on three separate television networks multiple times. He has one EP and one full album to his credit entitled Poetically Speaking: Savory Spoken Word...Spiritually Served. He signed a licensing deal with Meem Music to distribute the album and has already begun working on his 2nd full length album. He has collaborated with Nasheed artists and rappers on and off stage including Khaleel Muhammad, 786, Suhail Najmi and Mecca2Medina.
